Derailleur Hangar Repair - disaster averted!
The Scummer's been an absolute joy since the rebuild, and I've been out getting in some long hard k's while the tracks have been drying out after the rain. But, disaster struck last week, a 'slam' gearchange, going onto the big ring at the front while shifting to one of the bigger cogs at the back with too much load (I should've known better), and the rear derailleur twisted out of the hanger, stripping what was left of some very tired thread after nine years of use. With a road bike, the hangar is usually permanently attached, and in my case, bonded into the carbon frame.

Terrey Hills is Easy
A collection of bikes spied at the end of Long Trail on Sunday arvo:
1 x flat bar road bike complete with slicks.
1 x BMX single speed for son one.
1 x huffy or similar (my memory has blanked out what this monstrosity was) for son two.
Point is - riding to the end of Terrey Hills is easy and given this equipment, clearly not mountain bike riding! Or rather, the most simple beginners type of MTB there is.

N + 1: Commuter
After having the back of my road bike tapped by a car last week doing some minor damage to my road bike, I've now decided to commute on a cheaper bike. Picked up the new ride at lunch time today from CBD. Excited and nervous about the ride home, I think I'll be trying to find the missing gear shifter a few times on the way home tonight.

The dirty way to get to Melbourne
I'm thinking of riding to Melbourne via the most scenic and dirty way possible avoiding the black stuff wherever I can. Has anyone done this? Does anyone know how possible this is? Can anyone point me in the direction of some good online resources about preparing for big epic trips? All help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Phil

Manly Dam Works
Spoke to someone at the council just now and can share these snippets about what's going on at the Dam, etc.
Seems the work done is based on recommendations from an 'independent consultants' report that was completed Feb '08. If this turns out to be a public document I would be interested to see it.
The rangers at the Dam have to deal with all user groups of course and have arranged for the contractors we see working to alter the course as per this independent report.

So ya think its cold

Manly Dam - Green, Amber or Red?
Has anyone been around the dam and seen what the condition of the track is like? Also, how are the works progressing?
Keen for a few laps tomorrow but will avoid unless it's all good news.
