Awaba Suggestions and Accomodation

I'm up Awaba way in a month or so and wanted to find some overnight accommodation near the trail so I can get an early start. Does anyone have a recommendation .. I'm struggling to find any great info on the Caravan Park whats it like?

Re the trail .. I gather the XC loop is the main feature .. is there anything else that shouldn't be missed?

Cheers Aaron

Yellomundee Regional Park update for 21 Jan

Status:
Green/Open

YRP is still very dry - even after a bit of light rain on Saturday 19th and Sunday PM 20th Feb. So some corners can be a bit loose and treacherous. Lower tyre pressure recommended. The course is in good shape, with WSMTB continuing with repairs.

Happy with 7th

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I decided that I would join an MTB Club and do some short xc riding this year. I'd joined WSMTB last week and signed up to ride the 2nd round of the CamelBak 4 hour as my opening race, this was a bit of a learning expereince as this was my first time riding Yellomundee and riding solo laps.
Have to say that the organisation was fantastic so it's great to see that WSMTB is a well run and organised club, clearly this is down to the people that volunteer and take the time to make the events the success they are, so well done to all.

XX brakes - help needed

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

hi all,
i was just riding along when suddenly.... just kidding. in fact i was just replacing the pads in my rear brake today (which i've done lot's of times before).
so, i put the bleed block in to retract the pistons into the calliper, then put the pads in and noticed that they were much closer together than on previous pad swaps. i could hardly get the wheel in.
so i turned the contact point adjustment out a little and that opened the brake up a little but still not enough for the wheel to spin freely.

Found - bike chain at Cascades Acron Descent

Found close to the top of the Acron descent. It's a coded locked and its undone so code is known. PM with the code if its yours.

Found: tail light + gas bomb adapter Manly Dam

Found a not-cheap tail light on the Golf Course singletrack section of Manly Dam today, and an air chuck for a CO2 inflator near the hydro lab yesterday.

If you've lost either of these items, describe them accurately to me in a PM and we'll see what we can do about getting them back to you.

Manly Dam update for 20 Jan

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

Tacky and grippy with the light rains over the last two days following Friday's 45.9 deg C furnace blast. Cambo, I have no idea how you rode the Dam in those conditions!

Any more rain might see it go to amber, but no puddles, and the sandy bits were nice and firm. Some water flow back in Curl Curl Creek.

Heaps of traffic today, such that it was impossible to do a decent lap time due to the numbers of people stopping in the middle of the line, either looking at or walking the technical bits at 19th Hole and Golf Course single track. So waddaya do? Better to just roll with it and say g'day. Smiling

Unfortunately the sheep line up Heartbreak Hill is still blown out and loose, but there is an alternative that is faster if you have the legs Eye-wink Also found a faster line into the entry at the bottom of the climb up to Allambie. Wouldn't have thought to try those without the traffic blocking my usual line, so there was an upside.

Also really good to see such large numbers of first-timers out - bodes well for the continued growth of our sport Smiling
