NZ South Island knowledge

Hi guys, I'm lucky enough to be spending Christmas nr Queenstown this year, the missus and I are going to take the XC bikes over and I know there are a plethora of single track rides and circuits there, but I have been instructed to find a scenic ride, my partners fairly fit so I would think something along the the lines of the Anderson and oaks with views? This ride could also be in Wanaka or maybe Arrowtown, any recommendations would be a great help.
Thanks
Dan

Simon & Stephe's excellent Rotoruan adventure - 9-16 October

When:
Thursday, 9 October, 2014 (All day)

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Meeting Point:

Rotorua

Simon and Stephe are heading to Rotorua to find out what all the fuss is about...

Anyone else going to be there at the same time?

Anyone know any mountain bike riding guys or girls based in or near Rotorua who want to show us what to do (or not to do)?

Any, any other thoughts / tips / tricks?

[don't yet have accommodation, renting a car, flexibility a keyword!]

Bunnings to Narrabeen lakes

Hi guys,

First time at Oxford falls last weekend. It was an excellent day. Thanks to all that have made those tracks so awesome.

We spoke to a few people there and they all mentioned a ride that can be done from near Belrose Bunnings all the way down to Narrabeen Lakes via single track for a lot of the way.

I can't see this trail marked on this website and have been looking at Google earth but can't quite discern the starting point. Is it off Kamber Rd?
Has any one got a map of this? GPX file?

thanks

Simon

Manly Dam update for 02 Oct

Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

All good as of 1st October.

A few small puddles, but they are all on the wide fire road sections so can mainly be avoided ...if desired.

Red Hill update for 02 Oct

Area:
Red Hill
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Keeping in mind this was the first time I rode Red Hill.

Some parts are super sandy and dry.

Other areas (which might be "Main Trail East" according to the map) still with large pools of water with no way around and just horrible clay-mud to the point where I turned around and took another main track.

Unfortunately the mud hasn't stopped the moto's though, as there were some deep tracks plowed through the mud.

Still worth going for a ride though, as there are some many areas to explore, most of which are fine to ride.

Also spotted a blue tongue and a small goanna. I don't like to think about how much I didn't spot.
