Snakes in Glenrock

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Just a word of warning, the warm weather has the local snakes out and about.
Wednesday afternoon I came across a 1.5m black snake and this morning a brown snake.
Both laying across the trail, both just avoided.

Probaby need to put an emergency bandage in the backpack just incase.

Snake encounters of the Appin kind

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Buck and I were riding in Appin on Sunday. I was heading up this section of fast switchback singletrack and I've come across a snake on the trail! Not sure what it was (black/grey, 1m long, 5cm diamter) but I pretty much spooked it and it shot off to the left. I was pinning it at the time and took a while to haul up after I spooked it, and it spooked me. I screamed out to Buck SNAKE!! who also pulled up a safe distance behind me with no issue.

Black snake performance enhancer

Just about ran over a large (like, python size !!) red belly black snake at the top of the Dam last sunday overlooking the golf course. As it reared up ready to wrap around my wheel, leap off and bite my face off, an amazing burst of energy drove my bike forward.

I was buzzing for minutes. Watch for them snakes this weekend !!!

Fright of my life

Well Loz and I went for a ride in Cascades this morning. Bumped into Sean, Steve and Bruce at the head of the trail too.

Anyway on our way out of there we were heading down this slope and Loz was leading me by probably 2-3m when he shouted out something. I thought he said spiders as he always does when we ride at night in summer. But nope turns out he was yelling SNAKE!

Well Loz nearly ran over its tail and the snake doubled back to have a go at him as he pedalled furiously away.

Amazing colours!

Green with yellow dots. It couldn't give a stuff that I was waiting for it to cross the track so I could ride on, took it's sweet time!

This gave me a jolt!

Just around the corner from the 19th hole. I soiled myself as I almost ran over it, then grabbed my camera!

Cascades Python

Came across this little fella (ahem) grinding up Heath Track today. "Look, a snake", says Sam, "Where?", says Rob as he almost runs over it, before stopping dead in his tracks and almost falling over after forgetting to unclip!

Think this is some kind of Python. Any takers on the exact species?

Apologies for the dodgy shot, didn't have the real camera so this came out of my phone.
