The Resurrection of Lumleys Climb
There's a car park (click for foggy picture) on Springwood Road - just down the way from Hawkesbury Heights if you're looking for a suburb name.

This is the trackwork session you don't want to miss, one word....Lumley’s!
We have the last round of our Summer 4hr Series on Sunday the 19th and we would like to use this trail. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s the trail to the right part way in the climb out of Max's Bridge.
This trail hasn't been used for some time because of major erosion but we have plans to resurrect it, this is the biggest job we have attempted in a long time.
Bianchi gets some love
Just keeping a note of my bike maintenance.
The Bianchi has had some love of late. Last week it got a new front shifter cable and today it got some new front brake pads and cable. First change of these items since new in Sep '07 and many thousands of kays. Last well these crosser things!
Workshop on Bike repair and maintenance
Does anybody know of anywhere you can learn more about Bike repair and maintenance?
I can get by with the normal wear and tear stuff and have even dabbled in some fork maintenance with a little assistance from a mate who knows a bit himself. But I would like to learn more and become a little more handy. Amatuer mechanic maybe?
I am sure LBS's won't be planning events that effect their bottom line, but there must be somewhere?
I know some clubs in the UK hold regular classes at night over a few pints. Seems like a really good idea! er the classes that is.
Bleeds & more
Ah... more work on the bikes. Brake bleed front & rear for Rush & Pratiwi's Trek. Wow - what a difference, especially to hers. Should have see the cr@p that came out of the front line on the Rush! I suspect it needs a new one (brake line that is), or maybe some seals. Anyhow - let's see how it holds up.
New rear pads for the Rush too. It's been in need of a new BB for a while, this will happen later today or tomorrow, depending on how much in need of a snooze I am after lunch
575 Gets a good clean and some goodies
What with not being able to ride this weekend thought it was good chance to catch up on some bike maintenance.
The Yeti got it's first good clean in a long time yesterday. Just now it received new shifter cables - both inner and outer. Pretty nice Goodridge outers (in 'carbon') with plain old XT inners. I have to say... what a pain in the @ss it is to get the cable into an X0 shifter (rear only - luckily the front is easy peasy).
Another thing to note is that Yeti recommend routing the rear shifter over the BB non-drive side and then behind and across to below to the rear stay on the drive side. I didn't do that when building the bike and reckon it would be pretty much impossible with this Goodridge stuff given how stiff it is!
Anyhow, easy enough to route under the BB and this cable change was well overdue - looks like it's the first time since Yeti was born!
While packing up thought to check chain wear and... lucky... it's time for a new one. So a new CN-7701 is soaking in degreaser and will go on later. Yes, yes... that sticky stuff chains come in is very good grease, but I like to use wax lube on the MTB so it has to come off before fitting. Looks like the last time Yeti got a chain was in Jan '09. A long time, but according to my Garmin Connect stats only just over 700km ago. The Yeti is my 'fun' bike... looks like I haven't been having enough fun in the last 18 months[1]!
[1] Something to do with a cracked rib at Appin in January followed by too much riding on the road
P.S. Note to self. Yeti needs 168cm outer for the rear and around 50cm for the front.
New Jockeys
Ah... the Rush is no longer a ninja! It's star jockey wheels have been replaced. Boooooo!
Interestingly the top one is far less worn than the bottom. Will keep that as a spare.
New Cleats & Larsen
It doesn't seem like long ago at all that I was writing about new sole protectors... in fact that's only 3 months ago and the new set put on then is now worn through.
So I began to think that this speed of wear may well have something to do with the cleats getting very worn and thus letting the pedals get closer to the shoe and wear the sole more. Well, maybe.
Either way, today the Dorothy shoes got some new cleats and a new set of sole protectors. Let's see how they go.
For reference, here's some pics of old 'v' new cleats:
Hydraulics Lab descent - new Council-constructed steps
These are the new steps built by Council on the last technical descent from Allambie approaching the Hydraulics Lab.
As you can see, they impinge into the trail with sharp protruding corners, so be aware of this hazard, especially when the boards are damp.
Yes, I wonder too about the quality of Council's risk assessment process. I'm guessing in this case there was none applied.
Fox Bush
The Rush got a a new bush in it's shock (RP23) today. That gizmo Stan at BA made is pretty cool for changing these. Nice one!
Jetblack Enduro Grips?
The Rush got that long awaited (well - 3 weeks it's waited anyhow) work yesterday. As well as sorting the brakes (now feel tops, but have left the lever reach a bit too far out) and a few other little jobs we (my mechanic and I) put on some new Jetblack Enduro grips.
I'd had a slight issue with binding of bolts on the ODI lock ons and we had to take a Dremel cutting disc to one of them to remove it!
