Dirtworks 50km - Anyone want to carpool on Sunday?

I'm heading up early Sunday for the Dirtworks 50km.
Anyone want to share a lift up from Sydney?
I can take my car, or join in with someone else.

GNR training ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post
When:
Saturday, 17 April, 2010 - 08:30
Ride Database Entry:
Great Northern Road
Meeting Point:

Wisemans Ferry - by the East ferry crossing (turn right bottom of the hill). There is a good parking area by the kiosk here.

-33.38142,150.989066 (Park by the Ferry)

I'd like to ride Wiseman's GNR but not overly keen on doing it solo for safety reasons.
I'm looking to do about 60 - 80 km, or 4 - 6 hours. Minimal stops along the way apart from nutrition break at half way point.
Meet at the ferry, up Devine's Hill, out past Clare's bridge for x km or hours, and then return via Shepherds gully.

This is a training and familiarisation ride for the upcoming DirtWorks. I'd like to push myself quite hard and work on managing hydration/energy levels. Pace I'm aiming for is something like 60km in about 4 1/2 hrs.

Each year, many riders go through the stresses and strains of training for and
racing in the Dirtworks 100. As hard as times may get in the saddle, nothing on
a bike compares to the pain and anguish that patients and their families face
when dealing with Cancer.

Most of our friends in the NobMob (http://nobmob.com/) and Erina Bikeworx
(http://www.bikeworx.com.au/) families will have been affected by this awful
disease, and unfortunately Cancer has pointed it's ugly finger at my family
over the past few years.

Great day

Awoke to find that it was somewhat warmer than the 6 degrees last year so put on just arm warmers and my sealskinz socks plus usual kit. Big bowl of cereal and then a 500ml can of "Mother" with 160mg of caffeine and 200 calories in the car on the drive to St Albans from the Rosevale caravan park units near Wisemans.

What an excellent weekend away. Christine organised the old church again for us to stay in, and have use of excellent facilities - a kitchen, toilets and real hot showers, well, until the water ran out after about the 12th shower after the race... Gaz was heard shouting from the shower stall for 'assistance' when he had lathered up and the water actually ran out. Given his previous reputation, it was a matter of drawing straws to see who would go in with a pressure washer to rinse him down.... anyway, onto the report...

I had fun but am a little disappointed with a few things that went wrong to slow me down on the day.

The start was a little sluggish my legs felt like they were filled with cement and I just couldn’t get a good rhythm going after the 25km mark I started to get the bike moving and it started to feel like it had some flow and the race started to feel good I hit the 50k water station in 2hrs 48min filled up the camelback and continued on up the hill in good form with my legs and body finally warmed up.

Dirtworks 100km. Bridge crossing... Walk or RIDE?

I think it's time to face another fear and this weekend at the DW (100) I'm going to ride the bridge/jump and was wondering if anyone had any riding techniques for narrow planks across a river? (any updated plans steve01? Eye-wink
And how far is it from the finish?
Anyone thinking about giving it a go this year?
