What a cracker
Great race this one, loads of new single track (well new to me) and a good pace for all three laps. A big stack at the front just leaving the start bunched up the race and then another cash about 20 meters after that. It was all pretty hectic up there.
Nice and warm at about 32 degrees, but I felt pretty good considering my absence of training. I managed to hang on to Fabio's wheel to the finsih line, though he is nursing an injury. Plenty of time to learn some single track handling skills from him though, I think I have a new trick to test at the next race.

WSMTB 4 hour 20/2/11
Finished second in Men's 3's at Yellomundee, out of a field of five.
Found the heat tough to deal with. Temp was around the 40C mark, which isn't as tough as some have endured recently, but the humidity was challenging. Kudos to you guys riding solo and pairs.

Getting Fitter (HR Overlay)
I did a nice easy ride to West Head and back last night from Bayview. This is a regular ride I do and is 43km long. My aim last night was to keep the heart rate down and make it a nice slow recovery ride.
Below I have overlaid my heart rate from 3 of the exact same rides.
The ride from the 28/10/2009 (blue) took 01:55:37 was one of my first rides back after having a busy 2009 with work and not much (read zero) exercise.
The ride from the 10/02/2011 (red) took 01:34:23 and is the fastest time I have done it in. My goal is 01:26:00 which is 30km/h.

What a Circus!
Much harder than I thought or more likely a complete absence of any training. ##@%%$#%$@$#

Damn Tyres!!!
Never use 4 year old (well used) tyres when competing in an endurance event. I managed to blow out the front tyre wall with just 10k to the finish. I had to walk home and nearly came last. Grrrrr......

Dirtworks number 2 - smelly but satisfied
Seems to be a common theme with my mishaps at Dirtworks. This year I managed to run over some dog poo 5 min before the start. I was at the back of the pack trying to rub my tyres through long grass and swill in a large puddle. That wasn't working so I ended up with a stick trying to get the big bits off when the starting gun went off. Still I had a good ride, lots of fun and managed to better my time by some 15 mins.
Aiming for sub 03:00 in 2011.

Dirtworks - 1st attempt
1st attempt - not a good look crashing in front of the portable toilets just before the start due to not pre-adjusting my new pedals and cleats. I am sure this set the scene for more trouble. Running out of water, severe cramp and nearly dropping my beer on the finish line in front of a rather large crowd of "already ridden my 50 buddy" fit MTBer's. Hey but what fun!

Hotter than hot
I now have a new benchmark for hot. My first 6+6 so was keen to see how I backed up on Sunday morning. The Del Rio forecast was for temps in the 40s and thats what we got.

WSMTB fun in the sun
great day at yellomundee ,started out midfield was getting held up then I got passed by a guy who was making up some ground so I tagged on with him started picking up a few places and feeling good,on the back section past shaws farm a new section of track had been made cutting about 3.5km out of the main loop to create a 6.5 k loop for the race ,however someone had crashed through the bunting across the old section of track and I blindly following the guy in front of me went staight ahead instead of turning left resulting in a 31 min time for my first lap!we were now somewhere up the back of t
