Trail riding this weekend ?

Just putting it out there, I assume the most decent thing to do is give it a miss for this weekend. Hit the road bike instead.

have you had your bike stolen in Melbourne?

Hiya,

Saw this on gumtree, in case somebody in Melbourne is missing a bike.
Don't know anything about it, just thought I pass it on...

SON light bike lights

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Finally get to pick up my new bike lights this week. Laughing out loud I'll give them a couple of rides to/from work and a hit out at Jarrahdale and then post a review about them. They are from a local company called SON lights if anyone who hasn't seen their Facebook page is interested, and their website will be up later this week for ordering.

MTB Jerseys

Does anyone know of any good companies to get custom made mtb jerseys? Ideally more than just placing a a graphic on various selections of template jerseys.

Crowd Source Funding of Trails

Do you think 200 people would donate $100 if the outcome was formally managed and properly built trails at Red Hill?

The funding is mainly to get environmental studies completed.

$100 is less than many bike parts and you get a trail network.

Nobby Nicks....

Well I remember reading here that these tyres should be run contrary to the recommended direction (as per the tyre itself) and manufacturers recommendations. I have these on the front of my bike and have been running them conventionally ( as recommended). Does any one have anecdotal evidence or real evidence that running them contrary works better for this tyre.

So far I'm really enjoying it upfront...given me heaps of confidence on the bendz, great shedder and roll OK.

Love to hear your input.
Cheers

Which carbon 29er?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

With the Aussie heading south against the greenback as the US economy starts to wake up, I'm looking to bring forward my purchase of a 29er dually.

I've narrowed it down to two candidates, one I've ridden the other not.

Video Fullers Rd Res Downhill - Fred Caterson Res - Featuring Nthn Beaches Rider Pete?? who I met on the trail

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Someone might be able to confirm that this riders name was Pete (my memory is poor) and loop him in on this video.

He was riding a Kona with Maxxis Ardent tyres - is a Northern Beaches local but currently between places and staying in the Hills area.

I thought he might like to see the video I took of him descending the downhill at Fullers Rd Reserve in the area around Fred Caterson Reserve.

http://youtu.be/Pf82JlZFucQ

Also thanks for the Tip on Linksley Reserve trail - I climbed all the way up to the backyard and had a chat to the guy who built the descent.

Specialised FutureShock Fox Problems

2012 model, when I sit on my bike the rear shock compresses all the way, actually pushes o-ring off the shaft, I've checked air pressure. Can anyone shed some light on this please, or is it a case of leave it for the experts?

Go-Pro chest mount for $20

Just received an email from Deal Extreme advertising their new arrivals and noticed this offer. I don't have a go-pro but I'm sure there are plenty on here who do.

http://dx.com/p/adjustable-chest-mount-harness-c...

From experience, deal extreme can take up to a month to arrive and quality of items may not always be great but this mount may well be worth a punt.

Zoning Threats to Cromer/Red Hill/Oxford Fall trails and bushland - IMPORTANT

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All,

Today The NSW Department of Planning issued a draft strategic report for the Oxford Falls/Cromer area.

The draft report suggest zoning almost the entire Red Hill/Oxford Falls area E3 – see their map 7 on the link below.
E3 allows a wide range of development including schools, residential etc. It also allows recreational activities.
The risk of E3 zoning is that without constraint, our bushland can become fully developed.

Base Training

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi guys,

Long time reader.. you know how it goes.

I've got a question on base training. Been doing some kms on the road bike lately and looking to build my endurance up for some 100km mtb races. Also I might join a road racing club (but we'll leave that for another forum).

Do you follow a training program that incorporates base (aerobic) training in the lead up to a race or race season?

How long is your base training period?
How do you measure it (hours/km)?
How do you measure your exertion (hrm, power meter etc)?
Any other tips or tricks you do during?

auto shifting

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

so i got my new bike, all is fine except its auto shifting gears ( i think)
when i stand up and pedal hard or sit and pedal uphill it seems to change gear but doesnt change fully. ive googled and it seems like it could be a chain or derailleur problem. is it an easy fix or should i take it into my lbs and get them to sort it out?

Pete B's picture

New chain. What do you do?

So, I've just fitted a whole new drive chain (cassette, chain, crankset) and naturally, I want to keep it new for as long as possible. My question is, what does everyone do with a new chain? Keep the sticky factory grease and add your own lube, degrease it and re-oil with your own stuff or you have some other tip?

Has anyone used a Bionicon C.Guide V.02 Chain Guide http://bionicon.com/parts/c-guide/c-guide-v02.html#main? The reviews seem to be VERY polarizing, and that says to me that they may not be genuine (insiders or competitors).
