Magicshine/ cheap lights long term review?

So I saw everyone was buying the Magicshine lights a while ago.
Even though I've had my Aye ups upgraded, I'm not really happy with them when I'm training on the road.
I have some powerfull homemade lights that I use for Mtb events but I'm looking for a cheap light I can put on and take off the road bike quickly.
Is everyone happy with the Magicshines and are they more powerful than the Aye ups?
Cheers in advance,
Gazza

It's finally getting cold in Sydney. Can anyone suggest some good winter gloves?

This is why you should wear a neck brace!!!

A very serious crash to the young GT rider TAylor Vernon at the Val de Sol downhill race on the weekend.

Nice to know that he was ok after this crash with nothing broken. Neck brace is a must!

Garigal NP/Bantry Bay Proposed Trails - Act Now!

There have been a couple of threads go up on the form about this, but this is actually big, BIG news so please take note.

NPWS have out for comment some proposed amendments to Garigal National Park plan of management. These include construction of a Mountain Bike Track Bantry Bay. Ie. a step closer to the long awaited authorised access to this area.

It's in everyone's interest to get behind this... which is as easy as visiting this page...

Review of Environmental Factors for The Construction of a Mountain Bike Track Bantry Bay Garigal National Park

... and completing the form with some words like, "I'm a keen parks user who fully supports the proposal to create sustainable mountain bike trails at Bantry Bay, and anywhere else in the Sydney's suburban parks for that matter.". Of course, don't use those exact words, but you get the gist.

More details and discussion in these threads (comments on this news item are intentionally disabled):

Well this morning I added a $4k Trek Superfly Al100 Pro to my collection. After info being thrown at me left right and centre, I was able to sort down to Anthem, Superfly, Scalpel and Epic, a bit more choosing put me down to Epic and Superfly, and after riding a fried‘s trek for the second time I could NOT resist it.

Is this the ultimate bike for Manly Dam

Was going to look at converting my Sworks Epic to 650B, but I reckon that its a good chance to wreck it as its not really built for Manly Dam type tracks which is the majority of my riding these days.
I think this thing will blow the socks of at Manly Dam. What are your thoughts? To me it looks like a good mix of everything!

Support for Motorcycles

Hi Everyone,

I am the founder of Warringah Family Motorcycle Park and the voice representing many of the motorcycle clubs, businesses and individuals on the Northern Beaches and the wider area. I ride mtb's and motorcycles on the dirt and the road. Rather than give you all the information on Motorcycles i have joined the forum to educate and be educated on the problems MTB's are having with motos and vice versa.

Body armour

Hey guys, can anyone recommend a good body armour for doing the odd downhill run, comfort is a must. I've noticed some have a tortoise style shell back protector, but some are shorter than others, why? Any help would be appreciated.

Similar Bike to Giant Reign 2?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I was just wondering if anyone knows any bikes similar to the Giant Reign 2 or were to test one still in stock? It seems Giant has discontinued that range and replacing it with something by the name of FX in August.
Just to clarify I'm looking for a 150+mm travel bike that is mainly for decent's but still light enough to ride up hills, any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

MTB Coverage In the News

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Just wondering, how often do the mainstream news channels have a piece on MTB.

I don't watch much commercial news, but when I do, I hardly see anything about cycling, let alone MTB.

That said, does the MTB community like to keep the gem a little secret, or would we like to see more coverage on comps/achievements/events?

Here's a little 2 minute piece Channel 10 News did on off-road hand cycling last week.

Which side of the track do you ride?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Not a big deal but I get this happening from time to time on Perimeter and Long.
Your riding along.....today I was on the right hand side wheel track heading out to Long. Spot a guy coming the other way on the opposite wheel track - Sweeet. Then he crosses onto my track making me dive to the other side to avoid a head-on. This happens a bit. Well twice in last two rides. I generally ride on whatever side suits me (traction, terrain etc) at the time and am very wary of head ons on that track so always yield if someone is coming for me - but why cross into someones path?

How much could I get for my old bike

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey everyone

Starting to do the sums for an upgrade on my current bike and was wonder what would be a realistic price for my old bike.

It's a 2011 Giant Anthem x2 (specs = http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bikes/model/...)

Everything is standard except I put a more comfortable saddle on, but its nothing special. Its well looked after and in good working order with only a few scratches in the paint. The brake pads, fork oil and fork/shock seals were replaced in Jan '13. I would estimate that it has done less than 5000 Kms.
