Convict 100 2012
St Albans, NSW
Round 3 of 2012 XCM Series
The Convict 100 is regarded as one of Australia's most challenging mountain bike endurance races, consistently inspiring all entrants to push their personal boundaries.

I thought this was a flat race
Can someone post up last years profile so I can see exactly what I can expect for the 100km.
I need to prepare the mind, it's not all about the body....honestly!
Here's mine from last year
http://nobmob.com/node/21263
Well it does all even out
1600m's - I was hoping it would be less than the Oaks/Ingar/Andersons/oaks ride - gives me a fighting chance.
@Phil - if you see me on track just remind me of that.
Brian's altimeter must be faulty. I make it a tad shy over 1800m's
Pretty much.
I may still be able to do this, injuries are really healing up quickly now, so if anyone knows of anyone wanting to get rid of a entry for the 100km cheaply or better yet free let me know.
What's 200m's between friends? Psychologically it's under 2000m's!
Hi Logan - I have an entry for the 100km but probably can't do it now as I'm coming down with the flu. Would prefer to sell it for cost price. If interested give me a buzz 0401 264 672. Cheers, Simon.
I have a ticket for the 100km. Don't ask...
Feel free to PM me.
Flat eh? don't forget to tell yourself that.. keep telling yourself that through the penultimate 10k's or so
actually is flat too
Anyone going to stay over Sat night for a quiet beer post ride?
Look at the list of NobMob'ers attending this race! It is truly the unofficial NSW Marathon Champs.
I have stayed out of the 29er / 26er / HT / Dually debate - this race really confuses me.
I raced a 29er HT for a couple of years and went pretty good. I admit, there were times when I longed for some rear suspension, but in the end, the speed of the big wheels on the smoother tracks were the way to go.
I, like Dicko, am lucky enough to rock the 29er dually this year. I hope it helps me find a bit more time on the course.
Good luck all, see you there. Sorry I cant stay for a beer on Saturday - would really have loved to, as its a bit of a break for a week or two before the next race.
I will be there doing the 50km on my 29 dually, nice and relaxing I am sure!!!
Here's the mix of riders for the 100km
Elite - Male - 40
Sub Veteran - Male - 270
Veteran - Male - 307
Master - Male - 87
Senior - Male - 49
Grand - Male - 9
Single Speed - Male - 18
Cyclocross - Male - 17
Junior - Male - 2
Elite - Female - 6
Sub Veteran - Female - 15
Veteran - Female - 15
Senior - Female - 5
Cyclocross - Female - 1
Girls are smarter. No single speed females.
one more Luddite than Nutters
Looking at the weather, the depth of the field, and also the course conditions from recent rides, I am confident in saying that it will be faster this year for everyone.
I think that in the Elite Men, we should see the 4hr mark broken by at least the top 5.
In the Elite women, I think the 4hr 45min course record will be hammered.
I just hope that final river crossing (in the last 5km) isnt too deep this year....
Nice theory.. whats next a CX SS class? how about a CX fixie.. hipster... class??
Anyhow my hats off to the CX guys and gals, GNR rock sections and the Sheppards decent at any speed will be interesting.
FYI the river levels are normal (low) again now so the crossing should be ok.
For anyone that falls in off the canoe bridge, or doesn't want to risk it and intends to wade across, the tides are not with you. High tide at Wiseman's Ferry on Saturday is at 9.25 am, which should see it pretty close to high tide for the majority of riders. Tail enders will get a bit of relief, but low tide is not until 3.39 pm, well after the cut-off time.
Prelim results are up

hhmmmm.. let's set how many of those incredibly brave CX guys finished the race?
Did not manage to see any of them out there yesterday... nuts?
Did a little write-up for y'all.

Hope you enjoy it.
Really enjoying reading everyone elses experiences too - well done all, it was a great day out.
Having done my best time for the 50 at St Albans, I went back to the results from my first race there in 2006 to compare how things have changed. The following is based on finishing numbers and does not include dns's and dnf's.
Firstly, overall numbers are up from 230 to 753, a 227% increase. Super masters (now called masters in this event, the 50-59 yr olds) are up from 18 to 77, a 327% increase.
The outright winner's time has come down from 1:52:08 to 1:41:25, which by my reckoning is a 9.6% improvement. The super masters winner's time has come down from 2:27:44 to 1:46:20, a 28.1% improvement. The fastest super master also improved from 19th place overall (top 9%) to 13th (top 2%).
My own time has come down from 3:01:02 to 2:36:28, a 13.6% improvement. Interestingly I've gone from 7th in category (top 39%) to 31st (top 40%), but improved in relative terms against the overall field - from 103rd out of 230 (top 45%) to 297th out of 753 (top 39%). My 2012 time would have got me 3rd place in category in 2006!
In summary, there are proportionately more old buggers racing these days, and they are getting faster at a faster rate than the rest of the field. And the trend will probably accelerate given the numbers in the 40-49 age group and the times some of those blokes are doing.
Now I'd better get back to work..... or maybe shut the laptop for the day and do some more training.....
