Tools on the road

Forgot to add to my hot lap blurb...
On my return to the Terrey hills car park whilst riding back up McCarrs, some tool in a new Black HSV Maloo Ute decides to try and clip me with his mirror and at the same time rev the buggery out of his normally sweet sounding engine - i say normally because, it doesnt sound too nice right next to your ear.
Nice. Lucky for me, i did get his entire numberplate... Now im not one to dob, but if i see him again, there will be some nice words of encouragement... So if you happen to know such a fellow, sporting a new black HSV Maloo, that happens to drive McCarrs like its a race track... Maybe have a kind word to them.

That's one of the reasons why I now have a camera. If my missus is going to be a widow because of some moron's bad driving, I want to make sure she's a rich one.

The section of McCarr's Creek Rd between end of Centre and the start of the turnoff down to Duck Holes is ridden by hndreds of cyclsits on a weekend and visibility is pretty good, no excuse for the behaviour.

Edit: thought you were referring to the normal direction. Yep, I've done it a couple of times up from the end of Duck Holes and given Centre the miss and it was a bit nerve-wracking.

Im pretty sure anyone with a new maloo driving McCarrs would be driving it like a race track .I rekon your game riding on those thin twisty roads on the weekend man ,I wouldnt b doin it .

It was just the bit between the centre track and the turnoff for the carpark. Not on the twisties. This happened on the straightest part of mccarrs crk road! But have to agree, yes mccarrs is a great sporting drive (I'm a reformed hoon...) and yes he had a nice bit of kit. But his action was rather deliberate, and as hawkeye has alluded to - it's one of the reasons I don't like riding in traffic. I've had too many bad experiences, and it doesn't tickle when u do get hit.
And Again u r right, prob was a bad time to be on that road...
Still I was the cyclist, with flashing lights everywhere, keeping as far left as possible ( as a motorist, I appreciate when other cyclists do it) and he just had to be a tool. And I'm sure it will happen again. Maybe hawkeye has a good point wearing a camera... My helmet cam usually just shows me going off line too fast and hitting a tree... Eye-wink

U should call Frenchs Forest Police and make a complaint - as they will go and have a chat with King Knob and you help other brothers like me on the RD - because it's a he said she said thing ( unless you have video) he will escape penalty but the message will have gotten thru. No one likes the HWY patrol on your door step.
Also, once reported it will be in the system somewhere and if King Knob does something similar in the future he will be toast.

I had a dude deliberately clip me a while ago and my Wife who was riding behind and saw the whole thing got his number plate and went to Manly Police to ask them what I should do.

They said "we'll have a word with him" and apparently went to his place at 6:00 am a few days later, took him in a Police car (in front of his Wife and kids) back to the Police Station where they explained his situation to him, should I decide to press charges.

Which of course I didn't.

But it certainly must have made an impression on him.

If it was that deliberate on a straight bit of road & u were over to the left I would dob him in 4sure !

I've had more run ins on McCarrs than I have on Pittwater Rd

Back this morning from a ride in the Adelaide hills. I think I saw 1 car and about 60 riders. Absolutely blissful riding, killer climbs (nearly got off the bike on the corkscrew). Riding alone is an option, its not like in Sydney where you feel you need some numbers to improve your visibility and less likely to be picked on by hoons. When I was a young lad these roads were the main way in and out of Adelaide and carried some traffic, but now the roads are just empty. Mind you there are tools everywhere and I had 1 4wd give me a deliberate close call on the short ride out from the city.

Good off road trails is what we need, if we can just get the fun police to back off for long enough. Thats the other problem with Sydney, too many nimby's and self interested lobby groups.

He obviously knows what you drive and thought,

"I'll show this dude there's no excuse for cubic inches". Laughing out loud

(I'd be giving his rego the the cops, too)

There's hooning, and then there's stoopid.

"There's hooning, and then there's stoopid."

Agreed 100%

Everyone who has a V8 has a bit of hoon in them otherwise they wouldn't buy it. But using it to endanger people is totally wrong and they should be made aware of this.

This is not about you ‘dobbing’ in it is about everyone’s safety. If it is the same person you had a go at me (and only missed because I had decided to hop up onto the pavement – long story) then it will just add another complaint to his name. But when he does hit someone all incidents will count against him (according the police I spoke to). Nice to know they can only do something once he hits actually someone, but do not let him claim it was only once and an accident.
