Happiness is a warm shock.

Even though I was totally stuffed and it took me a loonng while to finish, I would have to say it is one of the best tracks I have ridden.
This year I think I'll only do the 50 tho.

I've set up a ride entry in the calendar - follow this link:

Hey guys,

I have signed up for this. Only the 50k. I havn't been in a race before. Any tips on where to stay..do I need to book now etc.

Rob's picture

We stayed here last year... so long as you didn't end up with snoring Steve they were fine:

http://www.brouleebeach.com/

Given yesterday went well I'm in for the 100 at the doctor too. Tops - had to make do with only 50 last year! Smiling

Buck's picture

So there is no camping for this event?

I MAY think about trying the 100km option.....a big MAYBE Smiling

Rob's picture

Come on Loz... the Doctor 100 has only got 2,800 vertical... it's only the Oaks up and Down (to/from the station of course) twice. First 50 was an awesome course last year and word is the second half is better! Smiling

Buck's picture

Lol nice one Rob. But I don't think Loz has posted in this conversation yet Sticking out tongue

Rob's picture

LOL... I seem to have a mental condition that makes me assume wherever Buck is, there too you will find Loz. Or is it the other way round? Oh dear! Eye-wink

As a pair, you are, 'Bocz'! Sounds like a great name for a boy band or something? Sticking out tongue

ar_junkie's picture

The closet Westlife/ fan...

Buck - if you keep training like you have been, you'll definitely be able to do the 100km.

LadyToast's picture

Cripes.. less than 24 hours since the last event and that's me locked into another. Tasty

lozza6's picture

lol Rob....

I'd also like to do the 100... but I may be away all of August overseas.... and I don't think thats the ideal leadup to a 100.. so maybe just the 50?

Its a shame, but not everything revolves around cycling.. or.. does it? Sticking out tongue

mtbasn.alex's picture

i just went to the website you have to be atleast 18yrs old to do the 100km??
any ideas Sad

Carlgroover's picture

at your 18th birthday last week, REMEMBER.

mtbasn.alex's picture

can you really do tht??

Stuart M's picture

send them an e-mail mate with a link to your 100km Dirtworks result.

Failing that maybe a letter from your mom Eye-wink

mtbasn.alex's picture

Is there going to be the same ammount of nobmob'ers there??

Carlgrover do you think you will be going to this one..

Rob's picture

Groover said he was coming but then didn't make it. He needs an excuse like he's taking a protégé or something. Eye-wink

We had quiet a few last year, surely there were more than signed up on there, eh? It's 4 hour drive from Sydney but well worth it.

alchemist's picture

save that for when you are older and want to pretend you are younger.

Send an email to the organisers and ask them, tell them about your experience and what racing and riding you have done they may accept your application. If not enter the 50km and smash it.

mtbasn.alex's picture

me n groover r (training buds) so we gota stick together in these races you see.

Sounds like fun, you never know 100km racing? might be a future for me

Rob's picture

... scumming!

But you can do that too... just so long as there is travel to tropical places thrown in and you don't make a habit of it!

Remember kids, scumming kills MTB skills!

Carlgroover's picture

I'll take you there if you stop calling me grover, (grover was on sesame street) I entered last years race but had to pull out, something about a collarbone in 4 pieces.
John.

Bernd's picture

are you pushing me all the way to the finish line again if I come along?
Bernd

Carlgroover's picture

As long as you can stay on the back wheel, but I'm pushing harder next time as I finished a bit too fresh yesterday. I also think the 7 beers thinned my blood and stopped the lactic acid building up. Smiling
Cheers

Paul's picture

Beer the blood thinning, carbs loaded, no fat super food of Mountain Bikers.

Paul's picture

I printed out the details, tentatively booked a Gumnut cottege in Broulee Beach, started working on the missus (suggesting how much she WOULD enjoy a quiet weekend away in Bateman's Bay, just the 4 or us and my bike) and then I find out it's my mates 40th Birthday on Saturday 6/9...shit, shit, shit, shit, shit I can't go.

I did consider not drinking on Saturday night and driving down in the morning - for a nanosecond.

Stuart M's picture

Thats a great idea Paul, what time does the 50 start? Now just to make sure kids parties are organised for the saturday

Paul's picture

The 50k starts from 8.30am and it's 300k from Mascot airport.

Gonz's picture

It's on the 7th Sept.
I couldn't asked for a better pressy. Eye-wink

lozza6's picture

you can leave at 5am and get there in time for the race? Smiling

Stuart M's picture

and Paul I just checked, 9 am start with "wave start times" to be announced closer to the date.

Even driving down Saturday night is doable, given noone is allowed to get to sleep before 11pm anyway.

christine's picture

entered - just the happy 50!

MEE Smiling

lozza6's picture

I cant guarantee I'll be available in the leadup to the event so am hesitant to go for the 100, even though I'd like to....

But what I might do is just sign up for the 100.. and if I don't get a chance to do enough training in August, I'll just downgrade to the 50....

Laughing out loud

But yeah, as Buck mentioned... no camping?

< insert Stuart comment here >

Eye-wink

Cheers,
Loz

Carlgroover's picture

I'm in for the 100km (entered) and agree it is a good Father's day present, last year it was on my birthday but I couldn't do it, so I'm doubly looking forward to all that single track this year.
John.

mtbasn.alex's picture

there is an under 17's category for the 50km Shocked
but there is a 100km option too i dunno which one to do??

Carlgroover's picture

Maybe go for 1st place in 50km Junior category, aiming for that would be a goal worth training for, and is achievable. You could try asking to get into the 100km as was suggested if your super keen to do another 100km race.
Smiling

Rob's picture

Yeah Alex... I agree with Groover. You'll love the 50Km and being able to fang it from the gun to line is always a bonus.

Keep training on those massive rides with Groover and ride this like a sprint and you'll be in for a top time!

mtbasn.alex's picture

I just spoke to the race organisers they said i can do the 100km if i wish
but looks like you guys think 50km would be better lol now im :S

Carlgroover's picture

You would also do well in the 50km race in the outright positions, but do the race that you really want to do since you have got the go ahead for the 100, and you know you can finish well in them now.
John.

Bernd's picture

do the race that you really want to do, as John said.
I think it is gr8t news, that they let you do the 100.
You will do well in any of them, it just comes down to what you think is most fun for you....
and or best for you!!
Bernd

LadyToast's picture

How do you pass or get passed on this race bearing in mind it's mostly single track? I know all riders start at intervals but you are bound to meet others and getting stuck behind someone would have to suck.

Do people pull over?

Hans's picture

sounds like there is plenty of opportunity to pass:

"Last year it was super sweet. This year will be even sweeter. With still the great combination of single track (some of the best in Australia!), interesting and narrow fire trails and only a smidgen of bigger hard packed main fire trail, you will not be disappointed. The 6km loop at the 73km mark will be replaced by some new single track combinations. You will also hit the famous snake track a little earlier to give a little more energy to enjoy the superb experience.

The single track is spread throughout the course so it stays interesting and there are plenty of opportunities to pass. The terrain is varied with the course passing through pine forest, open farm land, native forest, granite rock formations and some great views. As single speeder Josh Beck said "Best single track this side of Rotarua"

see the ride entry for more details: http://nobmob.com/node/4969

Caro's picture

as the 100km?
Did anybody do the 50km last year? I think I heard only good stuff.. anybody still remembers?

leopafe's picture

Hi Caro, last year I did the 50 and it was a total blast. Best trail I've ever ridden with plenty of sweet single track.

Cheers,

Leo.
