Wednesday Night Ride - St Ives / Cascades
Terrey Hills Tavern
Getting bored with the same old night ride, need something new, well try our new and improved night ride with added sniggle and two hills for the price of one.
This ride is not for those new to MTB'ing or the unfit as it has some technical aspects and a few hills that will max out your ticker.
• We will proceed from the Tavern to the trail entrance past Forest Way.
• We will then take the "Epithany" trail to St Ives Showground.
• Cross over Mona Vale Rd to the Quarry Trail.
• (New and improved) - at the bottom we will turn left and climb the Health Trail.
• To be decided on the night - ride the sniggle or go to Stone Pde to join the Cascade Trail.
Only if sniggle is legal and not vetoed by a group vote.
• Proceed to the bottom of Lower Cambourne (near the bottom of Quarry Trail)
• Climb Lower Cambourne and Cascades Trails coming out at Acron Oval.
• A short road ride to Ridge Top Track exiting this at Mona Vale Rd.
• Back to St Ives Showground and the sniggle.
• Then back to the Tavern.
Lights with 2-3 hours burn time a necessity.

Paul | Wet, Wet, Wet 2 | The roads were dry and it was barely spitting as we set out, but then it started to rain. That wouldn't be a problem as BOM and the Nobmob weather page indicated minimal rain during the day. However we soon found out that the trails were already... |
pikey | Cold, Dam Cold! | I have never been so cold on a ride before tonight. It started raining, yes RAIN not girly drizzle, and kept up for most of the ride. Thanks to the guys that shared their lights with me as I didn't think to read Paul's post that did say burn time... |

That sounds like a nightmare ride - but such fun!
happenned to the social idea in the night riding?
Sounds like a good ride, I'll have to see if I can get my lights fixed in time.
soical - now means chatting at the beginning at some of the short breaks and a beer at the end!!!
my lights only last 2 hours will that be long enough?
James, 2 hours is just an estimate we haven't done this combination of trails before and it depends on who rides, mechanicals, etc.
There are a number of fire trails where you can possibly save your lights and it will be a waning moon - your call.
Hi Guy's,
Haven't ridden at night but just got some lights and eager to try 'em out, I ride these trails a lot.
Hope you don't mind if I tag along.
Daz.
Daz, if your batteries are charged, tag along.
Even if you are familiar with the trails, you'll find them different and sometimes more difficult at night. Shadows and depth perception has a way of making pebbles look like stone and rocks look like boulders, not to mention tackling drop offs without seeing the bottom.
The good news is not being able to see the top of the climbs seems to make them easier, although I still expect to cough up at least two lungs on this ride.
Paul
Cheers Paul,
I find the Quarry Trail challenging enough in the daylight with all the loose rocks. At night? Well I guess I'll just grit my teeth a little more!
See you there!
Is this little drizzle going to be enough to cancel our ride?
I finally get to do a night ride and its raining, mind you its only 12:40.
Fingers crossed.
Pikey

Don't worry what other people are thinking,
because most of the time their not.

Yes we haven't had much luck with the weather on Wednesdays lately.
Radar shows only patchy rain at hte moment. Hopefully it stays clear of Belrose.
SUNLIGHT ! VICTORY!
are a bunch of GIRLS when it comes to the weather - honestly!!
Sadly I can't make the ride tonight - I had a major collision with another girl at touch football on Monday night where we both fell in a tangled heap (no rude comments please!) and my calf isn't right.
Not happy as I missed the last fun ride of Pauls too...
Please can you guys post a report and how long it ends up taking? Presuming you brave the slight drizzle that is...
So there were two girls playing touch and one had a calf - yes that's not quite right. Sounds very European to me (enter Bernd boasting about how German films are better than all others).
I don't count drizzle as rain so as far as I'm concerned the ride is still on.
Man flu.
Oohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I think it's time to call the priest in....
... I like German Film's, but only "The one's" are better!!!! And gues what?
I rode in the drizzle at lunch time Perimeter and long!!!! DRIZZLE is NOT RAIN!!
Have a good ride,
Bernd
... Herr Ratzinger left 2 days ago!!!!!!!
Bernd
Hey i just got back from duck hoes and center and terrey hills is dry, no rain, just a bit cloudy
I'm not sure I'd be comfortable publishing my water fowl brothel creeping tendencies on an MTB site..
So he did. Did he drop off your Rohloff chain order while he was here?
... he is not into chain's!!
and my two bikes have them on already and as you know, you do not need any spares!!!!
I will get more in October (for some keen MTB bikers!)and if you need one, I get one for u,too!
as by todays change Euro to AUD it works out about AUD $ 55.
Bernd
My Rohloff chain went 1.0 a couple of weeks ago & I had to consign it to the trash bin. You obviously don't ride hard enough mate. 4 years?!
I have gone to a cheapie chain to see how long that lasts, but potentially I am up for a new Rohloff one when your next order goes in.
It will be interesting to see what chain the chaps at Zinn put on my new Speedhub driven full suss 29'er when they've built it! COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNN THE POSTMAN (Actually it's a coupla months away, but I've just bought myself a new ute for work as a small interim consolation)
Hallo Bernd
Kannst du mir auch bitte eine Kette mitbestellen?
Vielen Dank.
==========================
Happiness ist ein warmer Stossdaempfer.
...kein Problem!
I will be in Germany in October and will bring a few back.
Just in case...
"warmer Stossdaempfer"?? You must do a lot of hot rideing!!
Bernd
That had to be the wettest messiest ride I have ever done.
Could end up being an expensive ride too. I think my brake pads' life have just been dramatically shortened!

Was definitely the coldest and wettest ride so far. Christine, better not call us girls as we did it anyway. Mind you if we had known it was going to rain that much we would have probably gone straight to the pub. As Pikey said yesterday...this was the call of the century. I was hoping for it to stop raining all the way...never did...didn't really help that I forgot my rain jacket. Anyway, will try to remember to bring spare clothes next time at least than I can join in for a beer afterwards.
Hope this weekend will be a bit nicer to ride on the Wiseman's ferry ride.
See you all next time. Was good fun on the uphills!

were at home in front of the log fire wondering whether you guys rode or opted for the sensible pub call - i think last night was the first time i have been happy to be injured from touch football so i missed a ride
full cred to you guys for riding - not such a bunch of girls after all...
Thanks Paul. I'm currently punishing my washing machine. I wasn't too cold while riding, but when packing up the car I was FREEZING. I had the heater on max all the way back home, then jumped straight into a warm shower
Oddly enough, my light which I spat into is fine. I washed it out with metho anyway. My heart rate monitor, however, is totally dead.
As for brake pads... mine look about the same as they did before the ride. I only really used my brakes properly down the quarry track.
These are the rides which really toughen you up. I love them.
