What size bearings for my Gary Fisher 29er?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hello all,

I've had my Gary Fisher Paragon 2009 29er for about 6months now, and in that time, she's seen her fair share of sand, mud and capital punishment.

I am in the process of getting the tools to replace the BB bearings and rear hub bearings, as well as the head race bearings (at least I think that's what they're called).

Is there any way one can deduce what size bearings I need before dismantling the bike? I doubt my LBS will be overly keen to provide me with the accurate information, because I'm doing them out of business (could be wrong).

dam presta valves!

Hey everyone. Im trying to figure out how to check my tyre pressures with a presta valve!! I've got a presta valve adapter but that still dosent allow my to use the tyre gauge on the compressor (dosent push the little pin in on the pump to let the air out). And my hand pump dosent have a tyre gauge. Its quite difficult guessing tyre pressures, i've pretty much got two choices....puncture.....or no grip :S

Could i maybe just switch over tubes to shrader valves? Or is there a reason im running presta.

Thanks.

October long weekend meant I could fly over to Houston Texas, visit my pregnant sister and pick up something nice for myself Smiling

Crossmax SL service

Can anyone tell (well that bit is rhetorical as I know someone will be able to …) me if I have some instructions of how to service a Mavic Crossmax SLR, will it be the same for a Crossmax SL ?

the new machine :)

Just tried the new stumpy 29er XXL up around terry hills did about 30clicks on duck holes/perimeter/long today and wow, what a difference from the old hard tail/26er (Giant Alias)
such a smooth and plush ride, triad rear is a godsend and the Reba fronts are so much better than my old Marzocchi's, it's awesome.
love it!

Tubeless - tips, tricks.. Help!

I have a 2010 Giant Trance X2 with the stock Mavic 317 Disc rims and Kenda 26x2.1 tyres.

As in a previous post I get flats regularly - particularly at Manly Dam. I've been running highish pressure, around 40psi, and it's been better although after another flat today decided to pull the 'Stans No Tubes' kit off the shelf and give it a go.

Servicing tools

Its something I've always been meaning to learn about but never got around to. Servicing/rebuilding my own bike, the works!

The dollar is still doing good, so I thought I'd stock up on some of the tools that one might have for servicing their bike and bit by bit get more familiar with them.

Theres the obvious stuff like allen keys etc, but I don't have a chain cleaner which I'd imagine is quite useful, maybe even a service stand. Anything else one might find useful?

(will probably be going to wiggle)

oil coming from fork?

I've got a Rock Shox Revelation on my old 2006 Giant Reign 2. Hadn't had a ride in a while and had a 55km ride on the long weekend.

The fork felt a little stiff and when I got home I got out the shock pump and set +ve and -ve to 75psi (I'm ~65kg). When I was letting air out though there there was actually oil coming out (enough that there was oil coming out of the shock pump's air release button).

I take it this is not normal? The fork feels fine otherwise though.

The new bike :) (ideas for insurance?)

Well,

I just went and picked up the new bike today (stumpy 29er XXL)
i have tested it around the car park and down the road and it feels awesome!!!
can't wait to test it on a trail, still finding my feet with the change in steering feel from a 26 but its good.

now the important question is insurance...
any ideas?

Question about tyre

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi guys I am after some advise.
Last night I tried to convert my non UST Nobby Nic to tubeless using Stans rim strips and sealant.
To cut a long story I got the tyre to bead up and inflate but when it hit about 20psi it spewed sealant from a hole in the tyre (not sidewall).
Eventually the hole sealed (it is about 5mm long) and so I started inflating again - once again at 20psi it spewed out sealant and eventually sealed.
This contuinued a couple of more times so I left it a couple of hours and tried again - no joy. Left it overnight and again no joy.
My question is -
