Brake pad wear

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi

I'm seeking advice on brake pad wear if I can please as I seem to be wearing through brake pads very quickly! In fact I have just gone through both front and rear pads over 5 rides and about 70km. Most of the riding has been XC style - tracks such as Terrey Hills, Cascades, and one lap of Manly Dam.
Prior to this I went through rear pads and 75% front over 12 rides and about 130km.

DIY Shoe Shields

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The shoe shields protecting my Northwave Carbon shoes are almost worn out so figure it's time for some new ones. You know - shoe shields - protection plates that sit between the cleat and shoe to stop crank bros eggbeater pedals damaging the sole of your fancy carbon shoes.

Anyhow - I have some thin aluminum lying around and wondered how easy it might be to make some though.

A quick Google found someone else has had the same idea:

Diamondback Rider's

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Ok, who here ride's a Diamondback? Cause frankly, i just spent $700 on the Axis Disc. And yeah it's pretty good, it ride's the Manly Dam and Oxford Fall's trails pretty damn well. No it does not have knuckle box (damn), it's got front rst and carbon ceramic disc brakes. 24 speed Shimano gears. Truvativ x-flow crankset, the bottom bracket is pretty average. The seat's nice, the frames alloy. The quick release is handy, as it won't fit in my car any other way. So yeah, please post if you have a Diamondback, or for that matter if you are hopinh or planning to buy one.

AYUP Lights | Looking for advice

Hey guys
Looking for a bit of advice here.

I'm after buying a set of quality lights for both night riding and commuting. Has anyone experience with Ayups? I hear they are good, but before I pull out 400 of my hard earned, I was hoping to pick your brains and if you can offer any user advice.

Would you reccomend them?
Would you buy more?
What are the 3h/6h batteries like?
Is there a 'flash mode'?
x2 pairs Handle bar/helmet versus x1 pair on handle bars - pros/cons?
Are there better lights out there? Who makes them?

Anything else I need to know?

Thanks
Phil

Carbon Bars and Bar Ends

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I currently have a pair of FSA K-Force XC carbon riser bars on my SS and I was looking to add bar ends to assist with climbing and to alternate my hand position. My hands start to hurt on long rides. Unfortunately the little sticker on my bars says no bar ends - damn.

Being a SS I place a fair amount of force on the bars (same for the bar ends) when I climb, so they both need to be strong.

No front brake !

Just got back from a ride and have no front brake. Could I have lost all the fluid ? I've got little pressure, the pads still come onto the rotor when the lever is depressed, but the lever goes all the way to grip !

Any suggestions ?

Wheel rebuild - any experience and opinion?

Hello,

I was told at the LBS that if I wanted to do something good for my bike, I should get the wheels rebuild.
My first thought was that I had spent a small fortune on the bike - why should I rebuild the wheels, are they no good?

1- I would like to know what are the reasons? Are the factory wheels so much worse than hand build wheels?

2- If you had your wheels rebuild, did you do that yourself or with which bike shop did you have a good experience? And how much should it cost?

I have DT Swiss 420SL (Specialized Customs).

Thanks
Sascha
