This ride's always a blast

Date:
22 May 11

Took it easy on the ingar & andos, so opened it up on the oaks. Had enough gas left to enjoy the single track.
Perfect weather conditions. Track was fast and tacky.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Need to get rid of this stuff-has been sitting in the shed for ages. The frame is in decent condition-was a good beginner mtb bike when i used it. most of the components were shoddy so i took them off but have put on an SR suntour XCR fork off a GT avalanche 2.0 (still in great condition)

The Oaks - Top to Bottom Complete

Ride Database Entry:
The Oaks
Exact Distance:
26.19Km

Seems to be one of our most popular rides, so here is the Hot Lap for it.

Start your time at the gate at the top of the oaks, and stop it at the speed hump at the rangers house at the top of the tarmac climb at the finish. Include the singletrack section, after all it is the main reason to do this ride.

Include stoppage time.

Cascades update for 22 May

Area:
Cascades
Status:
Green/Open

Still very wet. Only green because it's fire trail.

Quite a bit of traffic today climbing up towards Belrose as we were dropping down. Quarry climb was fun Evil Will be interesting to see if I can do it mostly in the middle ring as we were discussing once I'm a bit fitter. Was mostly in granny today.

10 speed V 9 speed shifting

Anyone else noticed that the shift feel between 10 speed V 9 speed (both SRAM X.0) seems that the 10 speed is harder to shift (like more tension on the mech)?
Having been riding a 10 speed for a while, I really noticed today when I took the old trusty 9 speed out for a ride and found the 9 speed just shift feels better all round..?

Cables are good on both bikes.

Green/Open

All good other than a couple of puddles in low lying areas.

Did the DH course for the first time today. Some of those gap jumps are HUGE.

Manly Dam - Main Circuit

Below is a preview, click to read the full post
Ride Database Entry:
Manly Dam

One of Sydney's most popular rides - the famous mountain bike circuit around Manly Dam Reserve.

This is the basic loop, taking in some technical single track, some firetrail and some roads to link it all up.

Here's the pictorial guide to navigating around Manly Dam.

Starting at King Street, Manly Vale. By Manly Hydraulics Laboratory:

Start/Finish

Head up Arana Street:

Corner King/Arana

Turn right up Gibb Street and past the school and into the carpark beside it:

Corner Arana/Gibb

Past school on your right (that's the fence just visible), through carpark and onto single track beyond. Some people like to start at this carpark too:

Damp in patches, small pockets of standing water. The bike still came out covered in CR4P. But good to go.
