quicklinks what do you use and are they reliable?
After having two sram quicklink failures this year keen to hear what other people are using to join a 9 speed chain together. Both of my problems have occurred while riding along either 20 minutes or in the case of dirtworks 4 hours into the race.
When I pick the chain up all I find is one link still in the chain and the other missing. I have been using the SRAM gold coloured ones a bit like this design

Do other people have failures? Is it operator error?

My Dirtworks 2011
I came into the race having had a few months of colds and my ruptured disc causing grief in my lower back. Unlike previous races I made sure I was prepared well before the race so I didn’t spend the day before stooped over my bike only to inflame my back. I even went to bed at 7:30 the night before and got nearly 8hr sleep so all was looking good on race day.

Fox Fluxx MTB helmet visor
So I managed to lose the visor from my Fox Fluxx MTB helmet over the weekend. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in Sydney I can buy a replacement? I've only found one site online who has it but they are a US company:

Any advise would be appreciated!

Cramps???? The Big Question
After a very dissappointing DW 100 suffering from severe cramps. I need a little advice.
I spent what felt like half of the race on the side of track doing the mambo no.5. I was a quivering mess.
I am curious to know as to what others are taking during the race and also the week leading up to the event. What works???What doesn't.
My current strategy:
1. Drink water every 10 minutes - 100ml
2. Protein bar - every hour on the half hr
3. Gel - every hr.
4. Current weight - 80kg (Supreme speciman...well i thought, before today)

Craft TransAlp 2012 - On the lookout for a Partner
So I know a lot of people wont be keen for this because it involves a number of big undertakings I guess, however I am quite keen, so thought I would put it out there and see if anyone is interested, so yeah I am looking for a partner to get involved and do this stage race in Europe.
Basically I would like to race the Craft TransAlp in 2012, its in Europe and is basically a 8 days stage race in July covering almost 700km's and over 21000 metres of climbing. As Brian put it via email, its like a Angry Doctor every single day.

3rd time a charm - Just your average Joe
This was my third consecutive DW and once again it didn't disappoint. It very nearly didn't happen for me after having my car taken off me at the 11th hour by the missus. I couldn't get hold of my ride buddy and neither of us had made plans to travel together so thought he had already left. Put a call out on this site and got some kind offers of a lift. Thank you all. However my ride buddy finally answered his phone and travel was all sorted.

Cheers,

A bit soft (and the track was as well)
Underestimated the number of sandbaggers again and missed the 2nd wave start, but got away OK with the last bunch. A few exciting moments in the "peleton", with ridiers switching lines without so much as a look. The mud stretch for the 200m or so before the first climb was a real mess, but after that the track was just soft and pretty leg sapping (us clydesdales tend to sink in a bit further than the whippets). Usually one or two lines in most sections were well worn, but it was still too damp for it to have hardened up. Walked a few of the hillier bits.

Dirtworks
At last a race that I finish, instead of crashing out!
Sooo,
Gun goes, and we're off. All of us together. As usual, a couple of guys try and shoot off the front to try and get a lead into the hill. They are chased down very quickly. So, going into the bottom of the hill, everyone is together, through the slop and muck! Ben (Mather) and Matt (Flemming) hit the hill hard. I'm in about 6th wheel and planning on taking it fairly easy. Justin Morris (Marathon MTB) jumps clear and sits in 3rd about 5m behind Ben and Matt.
