Beginners Ride - Wingello
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
4Km SW of Wingello village on Caoura Rd there's a small base camp within the forest - seems as good a place as any.
Hi - my brother is in town from the UK and I'm taking him riding at Wingello on Friday and then Stromlo on Saturday.
IMP - he is not a rider. He has ridden and raced bikes back when we were teenagers, but hasnt really done much other than commute to work since. It will be a very cruisey ride, and extremely social.
It is likely he may even stop for a quick smoke halfway round the loop.
We'll probably do one lap of the Red loop before enjoying a burger at the Wingello Post-Office for lunch.
If anyone is off work, and fancies a loose ride, then just pitch up.

DNF.. what else can you say>
For my own personal reasons the Dirtworks is a kind of spiritual event for me (yeah WTF..? as if any bike event could be classed as a spiritual.. then perhaps its the Buddhist temple...?.. who knows?) and this year I had trained hard for and was touting a 6 hour finish, having turned my lard ass from an 2009 8hour+ novice/newbie into the finely tuned wannabe road riding boy racer that I think I am today…

Rolling Festival, We need your help, come party and show some suppor on may15th at Bourke Street Surry Hills
Hey gang , it’s very important that you come to this rolling festival. We need a big turnout to help us celebrate the opening of this section of cycleway. The proposed cycleway network is currently only 5% complete. We have a new roads minister who is sceptical about the introduction of more cycling infrastructure; we need to send him a message. Hopefully See you there. The festival involves a waterloo to woolomoloo loop.

DW100 2011
After the absolutely cr@ppy weather all week and the wear and tear from Easter Monday I was not sure I was looking forward to the race. Set off in the first wave and sure some of the puddles on GNR threatened to swallow you, drivetrain gremlins were constant, a bad hamstring cramp near the GNR summit, and a close call from a lack of concentration on a loose descent.....but after exiting Shepherds Gully and feeling the sun shining brightly it was a bloody good day out. Though I didn't quite manage to make my target time, still got to be pleased with the result.

Dirtworks
What a race! I had a ball at capital punishment, and this took it to another level.
I started the race in the first wave after the elites and I was happy cruising along at a moderate pace just sitting in the bunch while others around me jostled for position. I was keeping a keen eye on True Swain and others making sure i was in with a chance of being with them at the top of the hill. A rider fell in a car-sized mud puddle and went down causing a bit of a pile-up at the base of the climb - luckily though i avoided the carnage.

2011 DW100
This was my 2nd 100km event and the first being last years Dirtworks. Last year I did it in 07:32:52 and one of my goals for 2011 was to do the DW100 in 6-6.5 hours.

On that note what about Cascades?
Moved from Correcting misconception and false truth
Having a prowl around on Sunday in the wet I 'discovered' the singletrack and (looks like) the downhill run that is now in disuse more or less alongside the fire trail down into the gully at the start. As far as I can see there are no signs forbidding access. It is a stunning network of track with berms etc all built but clearly has not been used for a long time.
Is this track legal or not?

Chain suck sucks
Having not done much training for this race given the terrible weather I wasnt sure what to expect - especially given the wet weather in the lead up to the race. Many of my mates had pulled out so I thought I would just try to have a nice day out on the bike and see how things went.
