Broken spoke...

I went riding the other day and when i was cleaning bike afterwards i noticed that one of my rear spokes on the casset side was broken. It has snapped at the end where the thread is inside the nipple.
Can i fix this myself with basic tools (chain whip and casset tool) and a new spoke ofcourse, or do in need to take this to a bike shop. If the latter is the solution, is $30 for a repair job decent value?

Manly Dam - Condition report fot Thursday Please

Would like to head out there tomorrow morning, so if anyone rides it today then please post a report. The last ones seem to have been from Tuesday, and given the sun, I am hoping it has dried out.

Womerah Range

Long training route involving some road, some steep climbs and the best technical part of Great Northern Road. Great training ride for the Dirtworks events based in St Albans.

Choose to park at either the East or West crossing on the Wisemans Ferry side. You'll have to ride between the two points which isn't included in the profile below or stats, but is an easy 1.2km ride.

Wherever you park, take the West (Webbs Creek) ferry across and ride along St Albans road. After 5.3km on the black stuff you'll find a left turn into the fire trail. This is the beginning of the Womerah Range and a steep climb:

Family ride on Mt Kosciuszko....Seaman's hut

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

@ Mt Kosciuszko....

We actually all (Brenda and my three boys) made it well up to Seaman's hut @ 2030 metres, before the weather turned. For the last steep stretch before the snow line I had to rig up a tow rope from boot strings to pull brave little Angelo (10) with my bike.

The weather up there can change every 5 - 10 minutes from sunshine to snow storms and blizzards. When we had to ride back in the freezing drizzle we were reminded only to attempt this in proper hiking gear with multiple layers and proper preparation etc...

Yellomundee Regional Park update for 20 Apr

Status:
Green/Open

Yellomundee RP is reported as OK on Wednesday 20 April. But as always, please avoid any muddy areas - and give the Park a rest for a few days after rain.

The next WSMTB track work morning at Yellomundee will be at 8.30am - 11.30am on Saturday 14 May. We plan to work on the area north of Shaws Creek to bring this section back into good riding condition. All welcome to attend! Followed by a ride and BBQ. Send me a note if you can come.

Loose Skewer

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Can anyone tell me why my front skewer keeps running loose? Since having the bike serviced 6 weeks ago my front skewer runs loose during rides. It loosens so much that the whole skewer shifts position (from pointing upwards to pointing downwards). I keep forgetting about until I look down whilst flying through the trails to see it pointing the wrong way... Impending wheel detachment and a superman over the handlebars is most likely:)

Wingello State Forest
Meeting Point:

4Km SW of Wingello village on Caoura Rd there's a small base camp within the forest - seems as good a place as any.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

I reckon wingello is an awesome place for group rides ,it has such a remote feel about it, anyway I think 1 lap of the "willo" loop including the new bits of singletrak would be a blast, then revisit some of the single track bits just to add a few extra km then a coffee and feed at the little cafe near the station would make a nice end to the ride.
