What mtb is all about
I actually enjoyed Capital Punishment but I really should not have.

29x18 does not = good flat course choice
Hmmm SS and canberra are normally great fun......
Not so much today. Dont get me wrong I had a great day out on the bike, the tracks were awesome as always. My problem was I was on a SS set up to climb the big hills that the Otway 100km race had that I did a month earlier, I was too lazy to worry about changing the gear to suit this race and as such I found the going very tough on the flat parts of the course.

BUCS 2011 XC Carnage
Some quality quality stacks in this video: Basically its a Students XC Race on some steep ass hill called Moelfre...

fun, in a hurty kind of way
This was my first 100km event and also marked one year since I got hooked on this MTB lark (Last years CP 50km was my first event). There's already been lots of posts on the event and track so I won't repeat that content, instead here's the patented Danny summary of how my ride went
What worked:
- The weather; after last year it was just perfect
- The track; with the exception of the fields around the airport it was great and a lot better than last year. Bring on the Mont 24hr so I can try more of that Kowen goodness

Red Hill Downhill/Freeride track location?
Hey guys,
Just wanted to know which track at Red Hill is the best for downhill/freeride? Like one with drops, wooden ramps etc?
I've seen photos of them but I don't know where they are exactly and i've only ever been to Red Hill dirt jumps.
Can you please tell me the track name which is listed on nobmob and also let me know which road i should enter the track from.
Cheers
Blake

Capital Punishment 50k
Wow!!! is all I can say. Best race so far in terms of track and event. The single track through Majura was simply awesome as was the switch back climb and the luge downhill sections of Stomlo. Lots of variety including some road and firetrail make this a true adventure. My time was a little disappointing but I have never ridden Stomlo before so I was pacing myself for the final climb. At the beginning of Stomlo I crashed in some thick sand and remove some skin from my knee, but despite having no water left I managed to stave off cramps, climb and finish.

Need to hit the gas harder
Was an eventful first section for me yesterday, had the front tyre washout and also clipped a tree leading to an OTB. Racing Ralph tyres had no traction through the damp section of single track. After hitting the tree I had to stop and adjust the bars a couple of times. Luckily as I hit the road section to the first water stop I found a fast group to ride with. I only needed to stop for long enough to refill a bottle so left most of them behind at the stop.

Yellomundee Regional Park update for 21 Mar
After all the heavy rain of weekend 19-20 March, please stay clear of Yellomundee for a few days. There will be a WSMTB track work morning there of Sat 26 March (8.30am) to check things out, and do some maintenance.
Thanks
