Trails in and around Bowral?

I'm heading down to Bowral for a wedding this weekend and going to take the bike along. Other than Wingello and Penrose are there any other trails that are closer to Bowral? I want to get a sneaky couple of hours in but preferably not have to drive to them, so the missus can have the car.

Thanks.

Bupa Around the Bay

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

OK so it's a road ride but I had to write about it as I have never ridden a road bike until today.

While overseas a few weeks ago with some of my work mates from Melbourne who are all roadies & triathletes we got on the grog and yours truly shot his mouth off about shaving legs & drinking soy latte's in your lycra etc. The challenge was thrown out - come and ride the Round the Bay event with us. "What's that?" I asked. "Oh just a ride around Port Phillip Bay".

More 29ers - Trek Superfly 100

Picked up my new Trek Superfly 100 Elite on friday.
Took it for its first outing around the Dam. It is going to take a little bit of getting used to but I think its going to be fast.
Now I just need to do the training.

Broken chain...ooops

Date:
16 Oct 11

Felt OK... just don't seem to be getting my climbing legs back....

Did Cascades 4 gates yesterday so a bit fatigued... but was the same story there.....

Oh... and for those who gave me tips on chaining a chain... the tip re "the chain might break considering how I re-used an old pin".... YEP. On the ride home from the Dam to Forestville my chain starting making an awful grinding noise then broke about 1KM from home..... walked it home and will fix it properly this time!

Manly Dam update for 16 Oct

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

The trail is Green! Sure there's some water on the fire trail but not too much. Yeah there may be a slight amber tinge but it's not amber... and Red yesterday?

We need to be careful that this site does not become irrelevant by being overly cautious!

Manly Dam update for 16 Oct

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

I did a lap this (Sunday) morning and was pleased to find the track mostly dry. All single track is good and the timber sections are not slippery.

There are some puddles in the usual places on the "all weather" fire trail sections but most of them are avoidable. I drained a couple of the unavoidables.

Personally I would mark it green but the tradition for Manly Dam is it must stay amber until there are bushfires or somebody dies of thirst.

Yellomundee Regional Park update for 15 Oct

Status:
Green/Open

Yellomundee is in TOP shape. Just a bit of moisture to keep the surface firm.

WSMTB members did track maintenance on Sat 15 Oct and have:
- stabilised entry to Max's Bridge
- filled stump hole on exit of Trotting Track Bridge
- added deck cross members to Elmo's Bridge.
- fixed some drainage around mud holes
- cut back lantana around track edges

Note that the old power lines are down on the track east of Nursery Corner (ie the far north of the riding area). NPWS have been informed. But take care please.

All should be great for the WSMTB Championships on Sunday 23 Oct.

See you there,
Ray Rice
