The odd puddle here and there. Any more rain and might be in trouble.

Carbon Rim Failure
Well with 2 weeks til the Fling and after solid block of training, the front carbon rim on my Giant Anthem Advanced has failed - see attached photos. There was always a small "ridge" in the rim, like the one near the air valve, but where the spoke has popped out the ridge got bigger over time. I now suspect this might have been a manufacturing defect, since there are no ridges at all on the back rim. The bike is 2 years old. The failure happened unexpectedly - no crash or impact. I've written to Giant to ask if they have any advice...

Getting faster
Went to the Dam for a crack at two flat out laps.
Started strong and hit PB's for pretty much the entire first lap and the only traffic I got was on Cobblestone Ally. Unfortunately I got a slow leak puncture on the final downhill just before King St. Thought the sealant had done it's job with just a few psi down, but it kept leaking after the school and I had to pull the pin.
Definitely getting faster/stronger. Doing the Half-Fling in two weeks time, so that should be a good test of my progress. I'll probably come back for another crack at two laps next Saturday as prep for the race.

Manly Dam update for 24 Oct

Old Man's Valley update for 24 Oct
Did a couple of laps in the middle of the day. Only a handful of small wet spots on Lava Flow, otherwise all good. Should be just about all dry by late arvo. Not keen on the smell of privet trees in flower though.....

New bike mechanic needed!
Can anyone recommend a good bike mechanic in Sydney?
I just found out my regular mechanic is leaving tomorrow, and I need to get my bike serviced next week. I have all the major drivetrain parts already, just need them fitted and everything checked over.

Rain
Any locals up there who can comment on the impact the rain had on the Bantry Bay trails? Better to wait until Sunday?

One on One Mountain Bike Training lessons
Just wanted to share some testimonial with you all. I recently gave a gent in his 50's a mountain bike lesson. He had told me that he had done a lot of racing and was quite fit. However, he wanted some tips on how to climb techy rock sections. This is what he had to say after a 2 hour lesson with Lisa from Sydney Bike Skills. www.sydneybikeskills.com.au
