great north road grading

does anyone have any idea as to whats happening to the great north road? I rode there yesterday and found the top of shepards gully smoothed out as well as the first 4 kms of the old great north road totaly flattend and sandy firetrail!! A couple of the nice rocky climbs and roll downs have gone. i thought this was a historic area and would be left as is with ses and fire access via western comission track.Enjoy this years dirtworks because next year it could well be 100k of fire trail cruising!!

Heaven sent single

Amazing single track all the way, this is how it looked after the torrential rain during the night. Nice and tacky.

Critty's ride after 3 laps

Perhaps lending him the Yeti isn't a smart idea after all. Critty's bike in pieces after only 3 laps.

Critty's ready

Phased about spending the next 24 hours on a bike? Apparently not.

Last big dirtworks training

Below is a preview, click to read the full post
When:
Sunday, 19 April, 2009 - 07:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Great Northern Road
Meeting Point:

Wisemans Ferry - by the East ferry crossing (turn right bottom of the hill). There is a good parking area by the kiosk here.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

Last big training ride before the dirtworks.

Simple plan: Ride up Devines Hill, then continue on GNR for 35ks then back same way but down Shepherds Gully and back on road. This should be about 80ks of excitment.

Note, this is training - No stops unless neccessary (mechanical and eating) and good pace which means around 18 - 20km/h on the flat sections and full blast on the down sections. Hence, a good training ride for anyone who aims at finishing dirtworks in 6hrs or less. I set the group limit to 4 as larger groups tends to be slow.

Good Stuff

Great weekend.

Finished 6th in age group (last still riding), 7th singlespeed (last still riding) and 38th overall from 57 finishers and 73 starters.

Its a good thing this race is only on once a year as it is a real battle just to keep riding and finish which this year I did.

Lucky

Geeze... we were lucky with the rain (missing it) this morning.

Today's ride was absolutely tops. It was highly amusing on a number of occasions.

Firstly following Alex down to the creek and seeing him almost loose it (left foot unclipped drifting waaaay right) on the sandy left hand corner (the one before right hand down steep smooth rock). I was riding the inside line almost next to him and slowed somewhat to view the carnage that never came - another lucky break for the young 'un Eye-wink
