First Fling

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

After getting a cold during the week - i was lucky just to start. I aimed for around 4 hours for the Half Fling, seeing i did the Dirtworks 50 in 3:30.

In the end, my GPS said approx 3:30 riding time, and with no major injuries (despite a stack in the sand), no frostbite (damn those creek crossings!) and no mechanicals - i was quite content!

A relaxing beer at the finish line with Bernd, Andy x 2 and the other NobMob Half Flingers was a good reward - as was knowing I beat Craig Gordon to the finish line! (shhh, no one needs to know he did twice as far!!)

Cheers,
Lance.

My Virgin Half Fling 2008

I completed my first fling attempt in 3:45. Didn't know what to expect but do now. Planning on 3 hours next year.

Now know to beat the crowd for the first couple of Kms so as to not get stuck in the crowd. Was surprised at how many punters there were. Also surprised at the relatively late start. A couple of hours in the cooler morning air would have been nice. I suppose it takes a good while to get everyone organised that early.

Loved the race, loved the atmosphere, got the competition bug now.

CHAIN'S again...

Yes, Chain talk again.
Sorry, but:
I think I have proven it to myself!
No more foreign, well foreign to me, chains on my MTB Bikes, EVER...
Rohloff it will be from now on... http://www.rohloff.de/en/products/s_l_t_99/index...
This was the first time I was relying on new, other than Rohloff, chain and I was let down badly!
2 rides in Germany (fire trails 30km ea.)
2 x TH Perimeter and Long
1 x Massive Northern Beaches ride (about 40km)
and then 6km of Fling and ...... you all know what happened.
That's it, no more chain talk from me, only one will do it for me!!!

Scott 24 2008 - fork malfunction

This was my third lap in the 2008 Scott 24 hour race. After wondering why I had less ground clearance than the last lap of the red course I realised the front fork had bottomed out and not returned.

No travel and steeper geometry made for an interesting decent.

How is Andersons trail lately?

I did the Oaks trail yesterday for the first time in a few months and it is now basically a smooth highway..they have widened it considerably.
Gone are the rocks and the little technical bits are all smooth now. They have spoilt it somewhat...good for noobies but now its more of a training ride.

Im wondering have they done the same with Andersons? The downhill to the creek was always pretty rough..
