New bike time (What would you build?)

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The wife has hinted that when tax time comes round I can get a new bike Laughing out loud

Now, what to do? I've always liked the idea of building my own but know that it rarely works out cheaper than buying a ready made bike but at least I'll get what I want. The olny thing is, I don't know what I want!

I know I want a dual sus, race inspired, carbon xc bike that is reasonably high end, but not sure how to get there.

If I did a self build I was thinking of the following but I'm happy to take alternative sugestions:-

Frame
Yeti ASR C or Niner Jet9 RDO or Whyte M10C or something else?

Withdrawn: TREK FUEL EX 9

Note that this is "Withdrawn" so is here for archive purposes only.

Price:
1,600.00

Up for sale is a used but well cared for TREK FUEL EX9. I bought it 2 years ago and have used it occasionally as a fun bike on the local trails. It’s a small size but could suit someone who usually rides a medium (as I normally do). The bike is standard except for the Rockshox Reverb dropper post. I’ll throw in the original seatpost as well.

It has the DRCV Fox shock and fork so the bike always uses its 120mm suspension travel. Drivetrain is Shimano XT with an XTR rear derailleur.

CCOMTB Social Day

When:
Sunday, 26 April, 2015 - 08:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Ourimbah State Forest
Meeting Point:

Enter via Red Hill Rd, Ourimbah State Forest. On your right will be 'TreeTops' for the kids and it's large-ish carpark. Carry on past there and the first small clearing which is were parking used to be, and is where the 'Browns' single track turns (you might see riders on your left here). Please do not park in this car park.

Parking and official trail head is now designated a further 350m or so up the road where there is a larger area. There's a CCOMTB notice board here by the trail entrance (on the left as you drive up the hill). Park up nose to curb or as directed.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

Social ride time again. For the gravity minded, rego. for shuttles between 8 & 9am at the cost of $30, you can all get together and talk about the improvements to the DH course that need to be made as there will be a maintenace day on the 9th May. Current MTBA license or one day license must be had. Please have your card or proof of membership ready to produce at the time of registration. If any XC racers wish to stay on and do some more laps please feel free.

2 x 10 chain rings

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Looking at replacing my worn out chain rings and would like to change them around a bit if possible and looking for advise / experience in doing so before ordering stuff.

Running XT 38 - 26 rings and often find myself in the highest gear wishing there were one more to use. So I'm wondering if it is possible to fit a 40 big ring and keep the 26.

Looking at CRC there seems to be preset options: 40 - 28, 38 - 26 and 38 - 24 so I'm thinking that maybe the size 40 won't fit the cranks or can't be combined with a 26 inner for some reason.

Bantry Bay update for 20 Apr

Area:
Bantry Bay
Status:
Red/Closed

With more than 100mm of rain forecast to fall over the next 48 hours please exercise some self restraint and stay off these trails until the end of the week.

These trails are an experiment in riders' ability to self-regulate as much as anything, so if you want NPWS to trust us and build more trail please stay off until the green light is given.

Manly Dam update for 20 Apr

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Red/Closed

If you didn't get out there on the weekend you've missed it for at least the next week to 10 days.

With 72mm forecast for today and a further 44mm tomorrow, and further showers later in the week the trail fairies would really appreciate you not riding and trashing the trail.

This request extends to the "extended loop" including Bewildered Possum and Kevin Costner on the western side of Wakehurst Parkway.

Thanks!

Red Hill update for 19 Apr

Red Hill

Pretty much perfect. Rode it today and the single track is in ace condition. You might hit a small puddle every 3 kms or so! If you wanted to be really picky a few bits are a little overgrown.
