Bike Camping
Guys and girls
I am starting to set myself up for bike camping either with my girl, or a mate of mine, and also hiking.
Obviously we are going to start with simple over nighters and build up to 3-4 days if we can find the time. We live in East Ryde, so looking at the blue mountains as an easy option to start with
I already own some of the gear required:
Tent, Sleeping mat, sleeping bag, cooker/pots, warm gear, Epirb
I am looking at getting one of these for a Full Suspension 29er:

Old Man's Valley update for 19 Jan
Rode OMV for the first time ever yesterday.
What a great track. Plenty of variety packed into a small area. Well worth the 100+km drive each way.

All mountain tyres
Guys about to get new tubeless tyres. They're for a 26-inch wheel if anyone remembers those! Any recommendations? I'm much more interested in grip rather than speed. Cheers.

North Turramurra update for 19 Jan
I noticed yesterday that there were three trees across the trail on the single track section between Samuel King Park and McRae Place. One at a very awkward height at the dip just before the small creek crossing (assuming travelling from Samuel King to McRae), one on the ground a bit further along and then another about head height leaning against another tree.
A few more roots and small rocks showing through the dirt than I recall as I imagine the rain has caused quite a bit of erosion.
Speaking of erosion, watch out for the water bars on the descent from the Clissold/McRae fire road turn off down to Lover's Jump Creek. All the rain lately has washed out the approach/uphill side of the water bars so the angle is a bit steeper than it used to be. Still good fun even on my XC bike, but pay attention if travelling at speed as you might want to either back off a bit or be prepared to 'help' your front wheel up the face of the water bars.

Stillbirth Foundation Mont 24 teams, looking for interested riders
Hi everyone,

Noosa trails
We're off up Noosa over the long weekend and I'm taking my bike. Has anyone any experience of the trails up there?
From what I can find on the net, there's a few single track trails around Tewantin Forest and a few dirt roads in the area but not sure if there's enough to keep me going for 3 days riding?
I'm even considering taking the road bike instead.
We'll have a car up there so if anyone knows of any other trails within about an hours drive, I'd be keen to hear about them.
Cheers

Bantry Bay update for 18 Jan
Brilliant!
Gahnia is getting easier and cleaner the more it gets ridden.
There's a break out off the trail on Serrata between the first very tight right hander and the sharp rock rollover. The trail is a bit dusty and slippery there and it looks like a few riders have slid wide, making a line to the left of the rock armouring.
Only problems were a bunch of old nuff nuffs slowing things up, but we've gone home now

Wildflower Garden update for 18 Jan
Tree down on the entrance from St Ives showground, but a new trail has formed to avoid it. The rest is all good, dry, quick, fun.

Cascades update for 18 Jan
The top of Cascades off Quarry around to Acton oval is a mess of branches on the fire trail as they have cut back both sides of the bush and sprayed it all over the fire trail. Destined to kill spokes for a few. Rest of Cascades is very sandy and rocky. It was nice to ride Cascades again after riding Gahnia and Serrata for last 2 months.
