Carbon wheels
Just doing a bit of show-and-tell as I thought people might be interested in a lower-cost option than Enve and the other name brands.
I had these built up by Adrian Band at Belrose Bicycles from parts I supplied. Very pleased with the build quality.
Rims:
Light Bicycles bead-hookless 27mm wide tubeless carbon XC, UD matte finish 28H
Hubs:
Hope Pro II Evo 28H 40 engagement points rear 142x12
Lefty 28H front
Spokes and Nipples:
Sapim CX-Ray and Sapim Polyax black brass 14mm, laced 2-cross.
Total wheel weight excluding discs, cassette, rim tape and valves was 1445g.

Manly Dam update for 24 Nov
All good & very fast. No trees or random stonhenge placements. Still 1 or 2 sandy bits on the descent from the Parkway to the creek (even after the rain) but al else is clean.
Question - on the road section at Nth Balgowlah (Kalui & Bangaroo St) is it ok to ride on the grass verge? Over time a track would be formed which, whilst not technical, would be better than road? I'm guessing it's not quite NPWS land and you could still leave enough space for people to park if you stayed close to NPWS land. Fire away if it's a dumb question.

Old Bulga Road (Milbrodale) update for 24 Nov
Rode on Saturday and in great condition. If doing the return ride be careful on the big descent. You can pick up A LOT of speed, the trail is very eroded and there's not much opportunity to wash speed off.
If you're in the Hunter it really is worth a ride.

First timed event, ever!
My first stab at any timed riding event.
If you are thinking of ever doing something like this, do not hesitate, do not delay. Get out there and have a go. What a fantastic day, that I will never forget!
A fantastically run event, registration was easy, bumped into people I hadn't seen in years in the town centre. Most importantly my son won the 5/6yr olds Kids Fling. He's still smiling now.
Not only will I be returning to the fling, though next time as a Master, but I shall be looking for other events in the interim. With a view to trying the CapetoCape in 2015.

Red Hill update for 24 Nov
Very dry,the fire road access is quite slippery to ride up but the water bars are much fun to blast down!

St Ives trails - Time for One-Way?
I’m sure many of us have had some close calls on the St Ives single track and often though it’s bound to happen one day! Well on Sunday it happened to me . Thankfully no collision or injury, but it will cost me some $$$$$.
I don’t find the sniggle between the nursery and the show grounds an issue because speeds are quite low and with all the trees felled, visibility is pretty good. However, between the show grounds and the fork in the road for Muppets and Epiphany it’s a bit of a different story.

Manly Dam, Dangerous trail fairies
So last week I went for a ride at the dam,
All was going swell until the final section of the downhill single track.
I was coming in pretty hot on the sandy right hand corner (before dropping into the twisty dutch ladders) when I was caught off guard by 7 fist size rocks that were placed across the corner, at right angles, cutting it in half.

Wildflower Garden update for 22 Nov
Rode through from the Nursery to Muppet Show today. All good, getting a bit worn in places.
