Fixing the bike's gearset
My road bike has reliably turned its cranks smoothly for over two years with nary a service or an issue.
However, now the time has come that it's becoming a bit clunky with the shifting and the chain is probably well past its replacement date, and two stacks have led to getting the wheels a bit out of alignment. I'm sure the brakes could do with some TLC as well...

Wanted: Commuter bike
The Avanti 1990s model (that used foam as its suspension damping) that I have reliably used to get to and from Hornsby station is on its last legs (erm... wheels), now that its front fork now moves up and down freely and the wheel jolts when I apply the brakes.
I can probably fix it, but don't really have the time to do so.
Does anyone have an old mountain/road bike that they'd be willing to give away/sell at a low price to fulfill this need?
The requirements are simple:
- Good enough to reliably get me 6km several days per week but

Terrey Hills update for 23 Mar
The main trail has been cleared but there is still a lot of debris that could easily remove a hanger from the unlucky.
Left it as amber because there is a tree down on the golf course single track that at this point can't be ridden around but can be hiked around.
Sand is starting to dry out and get deep as well.

Wildflower Garden update for 23 Mar
Just be aware, there is a large tree blocking the Mona Vale Rd single track just after the entrance at the nursery.

Does anyone have an update for the state of Perimeter trail near the golf course ie; have the hanging trees been cleared yet or is it still a no go area? Thanks

MTBA Junior National XC team 2014
Great to see some local riders in the MTBA Junior XC Team for 2014. Michael Potter made the National Team, and Sara Mills and Luke Brame made the Development Squad. Congrats!

Manly Dam - Social
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
King Street (near corner with Arana Street), Manly Vale. You know - outside Manly Hydraulics Lab.
Looking to do 2 laps.
I've never ridden around the dam in daylight.
I've only ever done 9 laps and all night rides, so want to get a daytime ride in to see what it's like.
It's a social ride, but I do like to push myself (40 mins for 1 lap in the dark)

less pinch.. its going to be fast!
Top image 2014 course and profile, lower 2103 course and profile.
2014 looks to me like there's a few less pinch climbs.. no love child and 9k to 14k will be a bit of a gradual climb with no real downs (no turns to earn..) it should be an easy grind of about 100m climb in 5k's before a rocket ride into transition.
My guess its going to be a overall a bit quicker than last year with less low speed climbing, perhaps the best course yet!
