Jesmond Park/John Hunter Hospital Hill update for 08 May
I'm putting green on because my single track and the fire roads I ride have been cleared haven't actually checked Jesmond Park out yet but someone during the week said they rode there

Glenrock State Conservation Area update for 08 May
Well I'd love to call it Green as a lot of the park is great but there are still some issues so Amber it is.
The majority or the main outside loop in the north is really good and drying fast.
The exceptions being;
BJ's which hasn't been cleared and has some logs and drainage issues yet to be fixed.
It Happens, the climb back up from BJ's, isn't much good either so makes that whole loop not worth the trouble.
Baileys Paddock is now suffering the 'post rain ground water problem' that it's famous for but it's pretty much un-avoidable and there's not much we can do about it anyway.
Otherwise just remember there may still be some unexpected hazards and I think tomorrow and Sunday will be pretty busy so just take care.
For a more detailed report on individual trails see yesterdays update from Jake.
Looks like being a great weekend so enjoy!

Glenrock State Conservation Area update for 07 May
I rode almost all of the trails over the last two days (only Glenrock proper after it was opened today) so can give a thorough report.
First off, a MASSIVE THANKS to those involved who must have worked their arses off to clear the trails. The amount of work they have done was only evident when riding the tracks, and it is obvious that a LOT of work has been done since the storm passed. Thanks to everyone and sorry I could not help out.
Kennys
Puddles where you would expect them.
Quite greasy at the start of Kennys, particularly just after the new little log bridge. There is a massive tree down blocking the Pipeline track (the B-Line I suppose) which I presume has been intentionally left there...although it would be low priority anyway.
Baileys Swamp is in full mud mode, from where you pop out of the bush and head across to the beginning of High Roller. Sorry Empy, but it is not possible to avoid this bit of slosh once committed to Kennys. It has been a problem since I started riding Glenrock 3 years ago, but even after all this rain it is not as bad as I have seen it. Still, bloody muddy though.
High Roller
There is a sizeable puddle between the small rock garden and the bridge which leads to the BJs turnoff. Taken at a moderate pace is ok, but hitting it at KOM speed would be no good for bike nor trail.
Dr Seuss
Seems to be a new rut or two here which may require caution.
A lot of leaf litter on the track between DS and Yule Rd.
Shaft
All good, apart from quite greasy tracks on the lower section.
Snakes and Ladders
In great nick. Almost completely covered by leaf litter, but this posed no traction problems to me at old fart speeds.
Seismic, Pump Action and Reload
All good. Just a bit of overgrowth along Reload from lack of traffic.
Double Barrel and Twisties
Much better than I expected. I was going to give it a miss as I though it would be a quagmire, however pleasantly surprised to find it was just a little greasy, although tere was a bit of a puddle at the bottom around the big tree root.
Easy Way Out
Lots of leaf litter and small branches hiding what I thought might be some new ruts. Easy enough to climb but might need caution if smashing it downhill.
Flaggy Creek Climb
Just some leaf litter. The water level at the creek is fine, less than BBB deep.
Bus Stop
A massive amount of leaf litter and small branches now adorn this trail, and once or twice required a bit of a bunny hop to clear an obstacle. This could benefit from a day’s work clearing. Certainly rideable though even by me.
Climb back up to Scout Camp Rd
Some sizeable branches blocking the lines requiring a step off and walk. A lot of leaf litter all over.
Deluge
Seems bumpier than the last time I rode, but the berms look ok. Only a little greasy, not too bad.
Downhill section from near Watertower gate to EWO.
Unrideable. I got down but had to walk the bike around about 3 large fallen trees.
Horseshit Highway
Some pretty slippery sections and some new ruts have appeared throwing all my high speed knowledge out the window.
Fire Trails
Mostly quite dry and even dusty in parts, BUT where it is wet it is really wet. Seems the water takes ages to trickle down to the lower FTs and results in a boggy river crossing in parts. Hard to find a dry line so it’s wet bums all round.

convert 29er to 27.5?
im just after peoples thoughts of converting a 29er in to a 27.5? would it work or would the 29er frame be to big for the 27.5 rims? and would it look stupid?
i just dont want to spend the money on a new bike.

Glenrock State Conservation Area update for 07 May
Glenrock Is Officially Open!
Yes the park is officially open.
The storm damage is mostly cleaned up and the park has been deemed safe and open to the public as of this morning. This should be on the NPWS website soon.
This means that the MTB trails are also open but status is Amber as there are quite a few sections of trail that are still damp enough to be damaged by riding.
Please tread lightly or avoid these where possible. A lot of work has gone into getting the park open and clearing trails but at this stage it is still a bit 'fragile' so please respect.
Also be aware that there may still be some unexpected hazards.

Glenrock State Conservation Area update for 06 May
Still pretty wet today on most trails - wet enough for riding to cause damage.
But it is drying fast so I don't think it will be too long.
The park is still officially closed but I don't think that will be for much longer either.
We will keep everyone posted on that.

Glenrock State Conservation Area update for 04 May
The park is still officially closed with trees still down on some trails.
Also is incredibly wet following extended rain so not good to ride and damaging for the trails anyway.
We will be doing some more trail clearing tomorrow so I'll check out conditions then.
Hopefully we will have everything cleared by the time the park is open and with dry weather that may be soon.

Just wondering about the condition of the Singleton track post storm? Downed trees? How quick does it dry out? Cheers, Dave
