Dungog Challenge - Off Road Duathlon (Run/MTB/Run) - 25 May 2014

For anyone who rides and runs this event run by Dungog Rotary is worth a look. It raises money for local causes in the area.

dungogchallenge.org.au

I competed last year and loved it.

It is a tough event, with the long course winners completing the race in around 3.5 hours.

However, the new for 2014 short course makes it more appealing to those wanting to try an easier multi-event

• Team and solo options in the long course (10k Run / 40k MTB / 6k Run)

• Solo only in the short course (6k Run / 12K MTB / 300mtr Run).

Jesmond trails, caves beach

Hey everyone

Does anyone have any updated trail maps or info on the jesmond/John hunter trails. I've heard good things, but been up a few times and only found a couple of short runs which were fun.

There are trails going off everywhere, I know someone is going to say 'that's what is great about riding, go explore them all'. Let's just cut to the chase, where's the good stuff!?

Also just heard today that caves beach has a hectic track at the end of strathmore rd. will have to suss it out, anyone been there?

Glenrock trail conditions?

Anyone checked it out? If the race is on at Awaba Grock might be ok since we've had less rain?

Found Garmin heart rate monitor at Awaba on Sunday morning. Looks like it's been out over night. I have left it on the notification board at the trail head.

Cheers

Went for a ride at glenrock on Sunday , completely forgetting that it was an open day for the NPWS. Passed all sorts of people on all sorts of bikes wandering around glenrock generally. Anyway, at the bottom of the chute on Kenny's was a teenage boy been attended to by paramedics - who btw had with some skill got an ambo all the way down off scenic drive and within 30 metres of the injured rider.

MTB research at University of newcastle

Hi all, the sport science department of the University of Newcastle is currently putting together a series of research studies that will take place over the next year or two.

We are looking for well-trained male cross-country cyclists aged 18-35 to participate in these studies.
EDIT: well-trained meaning elite/A-grade or expert/b-grade or training around 10+ hours per week

The first of these studies will only require one session of cycling on a cycle ergometer lasting 45min - 1 hour. This can be done either in Newcastle or Central Coast at a time that suits you.

Motos at Awaba

I rode Awaba for the first time at the weekend - was great - but encountered some motos at a trail intersection just after that short sharp (black mountain?) climb.

Didn't see them riding the MTB trails but just wondered if the area is open to motos or not? Wasn't sure if there were moto specific trails around there so didn't say anything to them at the time.

Why would a moto trash a pumptrack

Aarrrggh very frustrating. Took 2 hrs to patch it back up. Was lucky there has been a little bit of rain.

Plans for Glenrock 2014??

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Apart from the great work done on Shaft, 2013 has been a bit dismal for Glenrock...with the 'closure' of the southern trails I expected NPWS to be able to apply more resources to 'maintaining and improving the northern trails'. Lately all I have seen is an increase in illegal trail modification, wet weather damage, motorbikes, erosion and and a bag of rubbish at the picnic table that has been there for months...
Is there any positive news for 2014? Every time I ride Awaba it shits me how good Glenrock could be...

AWABA trails - condition?

Just wondered if anyone can provide an update on the condition of Awaba? The existing update is weeks old.

Thanks,

KT
