hi, i use to ride at meani quite a lot, but havent been on my bike regularly for the past two years. i heard there were some trail closures, but is the free ride section behind the sporting fields still open for riding? i went there this week and it appears to be an abandoned area... i did see some signage near the waste management site stating the afp were patrolling and the section was closed... is the free ride spot included in this???
Gahnia - Bantry Bay ready to ride Christmas Eve
National Parks have delivered a nice present to all of us.
Gahnia can be ridden from tomorrow from 9am.
Please take extreme care in the rock chute entry as this feature and much of the trail are more advanced than Serrata.
There will be more signage and additional rocks in the new year to help with flow. Please take care and check things out before committing.
It should only be ridden in the north to south direction ending at the Seaforth end.
Manly Dam - 1000 riders/week!
according to this press release from Warringah Council the Dam is getting around 1000 riders/week!
Media Release - Upgrade for Manly Dam
Date: Tuesday, December 9, 2014
Release: Major Upgrade for Sydney’s Busiest Mountain Bike Track
A treat for Mountain Bike riders is in store with the completion of a major upgrade of the Manly Dam Mountain Bike Track.
“The Manly Dam track has been working hard, with well over 50,000 uses a year, so it was in need of some loving care” said Warringah Mayor, Michael Regan.
Bantry Bay - Serrata soft opening!
Just had email from NPWS!!!
Serrata track on the Forestville side can now be ridden! All trail work is complete and signage installed.
Please stay out of Gahnia on the Wakehurst Parkway side which is still under construction with more raised platform to be installed to get over highly sensitive sites. Hoping for access to ride early January. More details to follow.
Both tracks are due for ribbon cutting ceremony early next year by key government officials whom have supported us.
Bantry Bay - stop riders pissing off NPWS
If anyone knows who is riding Bantry Bay at the moment, particularly the Wakehurst Parkway side please get them to stop.
NPWS are seriously unhappy. Not all structures are in and people are riding on sensitive stuff that explicitly required bridges in environmental assessment.
Lots of riders showing up on Strava at the moment. Let's not encourage the government to start using Strava for enforcement.
Manly Dam trail work notification
Warringah Council have advised that Trailscapes will commence work this Thursday (30th October) to replace the dutch ladder on the climbing section of trail just before the trig track (final section of the golf single). The work will involve laying sandstone armouring/corrals, and improvements to drainage. Please take care when approaching this section as diversions may be in place, please follow all directions from workers during this period. the work is estimated to take 2 - 3 weeks to complete.
Warringah Councillors, read this.
Rather than being bothered to get accurate costings, Warringah Councillors voted to turn down the chance to get involved in Bare Creek Bike Park and be part of a solution that created something that draws much needed riders and spending (and jobs) to the area.
Well unlike you (Mr Giltinan and Mr Regan in particular), some people do get it. Here's an example of what you're missing out on, thanks to your shafting of riders at the 11th hour on this project.
MTBA - new way forward for trail advocacy! (a.k.a. what now given that IMBA-AU has folded)
just spotted this article on the MTBA website ..
http://www.mtba.asn.au/news/2241-the-way-forward...
Since we're massively under served in terms of trail destinations and facilities I think this is an important discussion topic. Mine's a very Sydney centric view of life. I know things are on the improve but the pace of change is frustratingly glacial.
Unlock the gate
"We would like urgent action to the intolerable state of affairs for people wishing to cycle between the towns of the Upper Blue Mountains.
Either unlock the gate to the track parallel to the railway line between Katoomba and Mt Victoria or else spend the $9 million now for a state of the art track.
"
Take a second to sign the petition. Seems ridiculous that maintenance crews can drive through but you can ride it
