Bush Fire Advice

The recent fires in a popular riding area of the Perth Hills have highlighted the potential risk to mountain bikers. Bushfires occur every year in Western Australia. Safe mountain biking means planning for bushfire emergencies before leaving home.

Avoid riding in the bush on days of severe, extreme or catastrophic fire danger or if there is smoke or fire in the area. You can check the Fire Danger Ratings on the Department of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES) website:

A mate just bought a 2013 trek fuel 8 secondhand never been ridden all was good untill first trip out playing around with the settings on his shock and fork .He forgot to to go back to trail or descend and left it in climb for a short run down hill in margs under the pines no big jumps .Problem now is when you turn the lever on top of the fork it makes no difference to how they operate.Unfortunatly he never got the warranty paper work when bying the bike any ideas what has happend

Corroding nipples

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Anyone else had the problem of corroding nipples (wheel nipples!!) on their alloy nippled carbon rims? Just had the third one go on my Roval SL wheel, and looks like half the rest ready to let go to.

see here for longish ongoing discussion on failures in Enve Rim nipples (and others) http://forums.mtbr.com/wheels-tires/enve-wheel-n...

Another interuption to training !@**%^&!!

Garmin Edge 500 HRM problems

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Got an Edge 500 Premium Bundle earlier this year and have had to send the HRM and the whole lot back 3 times now.

Read all the help sites about getting the HRM to pick up properly (swapping the battery around, removing the battery for about 5 mins, resetting the Garmin itself) all to no avail. Even using a different strap. Battery charge is fine (checked that too)

All work for about 6 weeks and then the whole cycle starts again. HRM detected but no reading, or reading 60 BPM in the middle of a 4 hour race.

Anyone got any tips, besides sending it back again.
