G'day!

New to the fourm and recently rediscovered mountain biking after a 13 year brake from being a teenager Firstly I must compliment the entire Nobmob community on a very informative and well put-together website, and thank them for their time doing trail updates and such. It has made my transition into the sport and finding the trails that I have ridden around Sydney that much easier! So, thanks! and hope i can contribute something back (sorry with the new taxes on beer, it cant be beer Sticking out tongue )

Greetings from a new MTBer

Hows it going, new to mountain biking and just introducing myself. I started up about a yr ago with a Jamis hardtail as away of rehabilating myself after a fractured hip. The addiction wasn't long taking hold and I've recently got myself a new Giant x2 Anthem. Its making the trip around Manly a whole new experience. Now that I'm looking the part all I need is some skill to complete the package. Do most of my riding in Manly or Loftus.

Hope to meet up with some new MTBers and get in some new trails, I see the calendar with advertised meets so hope to catch ye on the trails.

Does anyone have some....

...good cycling stats on number of cyclists in Sydney/Australia etc. I am trying to get some funding from work for cycling kit, better facilities for those of us who commute etc. I am looking for data on both commuter numbers as well as number of cyclists in general (as kit can be worn on weekend rides).

Any help appreciated!!

Jail time for assault with a car - at last!

Old-ish news, but...

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/jealous-cra...

... at least it's a start as the courts realise a car is a deadly weapon, especially when used against less solid road users.

OK, story goes like this. I was riding to work today at 5:30 am for an early morning meeting. I usually stick to the back streets riding from Allambie Heights to North Sydney but decided to take Military Road as (a) I was running late for my meeting, (b) there was little to no traffic on Military Road at that hour and (c) I happended to be able to tack on to the wheel of someone much fitter than myself. When we approached the traffic lights next to the bus stop near the Oaks, the light turned red and we both stopped.

Hey. my name is bradley. I recently got a hardtail mtb. i realise this bike is not best suited for downhill or mtb'ing. BUT even still i love mtb'ing so i want to go for a ride with someone anytime. saturday is usually the best. EARLY IS GOOD. I do not have a car but am pretty good with trains and getting places. i live in inner city (sydney). Someone please lend a moment for a new kid, i know you were like me at one point.

Letting kids ride to school doesn't make you a bad parent

A few here might be interested in this:

http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/society-and-cultur...

...Forty years ago 80 per cent of Australian children walked or rode a bike to school, and felt comfortable doing it... today it is thought that less than 20 per cent of children get to school under their own steam.

That's a sad statistic, eh? Sad

Ride to School Day is tomorrow (March 16).
