575 Chain for the Rush

Just a quick note to myself... move along...

Checking the chain wear on the Rush this morning saw it very nearly at 1%. Didn't have time to fit a new one so took the one of the 575 (still < 0.75%) for today's ride. Think this drive train is going to be borderline ridable soon. Will work out how many kays it has on later.

Impressions - new rider to MTBing

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

New to MTBing - met some really nice guys at Manly Dam, everyone was very helpful..... lots of advise for a newbie like me.

Only impression I can give at the moment is when I rode around the trails near the northern end of Manly Dam, some biker left their inner tube on the side of the track. If Bikers leave rubbish which is identifiable as "bike" type rubbish then it could spoil it for a lot of people if MTBrs are banned or such. Negative branding can kill off a healthy sport/recreation.

What's IN or OUT in 2009?

Hey MTBrs - I'm new to the MTB wrld, live near Oxy falls, Manly Dam, Red Hill etc.... Hear Oxy Falls is out for MTBing?, also RedHill? Can anyone really clarify what trails are IN or OUT around the Northern Beaches. Is there a trail booklet or such that warns where you can or cant ride?

Don't want to get caught for being naive or ill informed. Want to ensure MTBrs are well respected etc..

Hope this blog works o.K - virgin bogger !

Lights

I am looking to do night rides but don't know what light to buy.

Can anyone recommend riding lights.
Brand/price/shop would be handy but type and lumens is enough

Cheers Kianga

Nice Bike Lanes

Well in order to get half fit for the upcoming 24hr and 100km races I thought I'd go exlore a commuting route to the CBD from Hornsby with Paige. Having never ridden much on the bitumen before I decided to find the quietest route possible. Turns out that it was easier than expected to find a route with next to no traffic.

Well I went to Thredbo this Christmas with Bruce for a go at some real downhill runs. Turns out I have a lot to learn Smiling

I didn't have the best lead up to it with my stupid stack at Duck Holes of all places the week before! Leg still had the scabs on it and knee was still a bit stiff but I thought I'd give it a go anyway.

Ever had

... one of those days when you just feel off your game and are just not riding as well as you know you can?

We headed out for our usual Tuesday night ride, only two of us and Austo had to head of early so we decided on a fast and furious lap up Hassans and down the old DH track.

Got to the top OK, puffing and panting but feeling pretty good. Set the helmet cam and set off after Austo. Was struggling a bit to stay on line, bounced my battery out of it's holder, stopped to refit it and then caught back up, Austo had stopped to wait for me.

gold!!

The heat was on in more ways than one as it was very hot with what felt like 100% humidity and team mates turning up the heat on me for good positions going into the first turn of the single track this signaled game on! so I through away the walking stick and got on with the job. There's some new single track since the 8hr which is an improvement as it takes out the flat fire road where we were transitioning at the 8hr.I'll be back next year to do both the cross country & downhill can't wait
