WSMTB - 4 Hour Summer Enduro Series Race 2

My preparation wasn't the best. I was feeling quite dehydrated and queezy in the stomach. Still managed 8 laps which put me 49th out of 107 solo riders. Had time for 9 laps but I had nothing left in the tank.

Disclaimer: According to my results, it says I did 9 laps, but my 7th lap only took just over 6 minutes with an average speed of 69 km/h!

4 Hour Summer Enduro Series - 'Training Ride'

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Decided on Saturday night to go out and do the 4 hour. There were a bunch of the gang going, so I thought it would be good to go out and get some 'corner carving' and 'race pace' training in ahead of the Jet Black 24 in Feb.

Seems like sleep was a problem all round on Saturday night, plenty of comments around the traps, and I was the same, got about 5 hrs in before a 5.30 wakeup to get out there and register. Not to worry - a seriously strong coffee and I was ready to go Cool

after a long break over the xmas period and well before that from mtb racing i was itching to get back and race on the dirt.
i've been doing a lot of road racing over the summer months ( two races a week for quite a while before xmas ) and it certainly paid off today.
i got a good start near the front and held my position without slowing any faster riders up. my plan was to go flat out from the start and just keep going as fast as my body would let me, if i slowed to a snails pace at the end then so be it. but it wasn't to be and i just seemed to keep motoring.

Four Will Do Today

Three hours sleep a belly full of shit food the day before and no warm up before a hard and fast start wont get you to the end of a 4hr no matter how much you try to HTFU.

But I had fun.

My lower back really played up today and I decided it really wasnt worth the pain to keep going (should of warmed up).

But I mangaed to clear some technical sections relatively easily today that I have had the ocasional problem with in the past so am happy with my effort if not the result.

Gazza's looking bloody strong top effort - well done.

Wow! What can you say about this trip... this place... that can do it justice? I guess you really can't so this will probably seem a bit short:

It seems like an age ago that a very brave Supagav posted up this trip and left it open to all. Amazingly brave but it worked out beautifully, and many thanks to him and V and the folks over in NZ for taking care of so much of the organisation.

This was a bit of a strange experience for me to be honest. Usually taking care of every detail of a trip, but this time was able to just turn the brain off and wonder around, eating when food was shoved under my nose, getting in the van when everyone else did, sleeping when tired, pedalling when there was a hill to climb and grinning like an idiot when there were sweet, flowing berms to follow. It was all a blur, but that just about sums it up!
