Arriving early around 8:00am left me plenty of time to register, get ready and go for a warm up lap with Gaz & Damien.Rode up Demtel in granny not to wear myself out before the race the downhill section after demtel was down the DH berm track which was fun in a little traction way.

Demtel Hell

Actually I shouldn't call it hell, it was completely expected. It really felt like there was a lot of climbing for this race but in fact it was only 694m in total. The downhill section after Demtel was fine, I was expecting all sorts of surprises but most people I saw took it all very slowly and it was all pretty straight forward. I got a pretty rubbish start but I'm not going to use it as an excuse, I just need to do more interval training.

Well done to the fast guys that finished in front of me (how competitive is this little group getting!), and bad luck to the DNFers.

The effects of Scumming

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Okay as you know Ive been scumming it for quite some time now. At the end of the training in March it looked all fine and dandy for the 3Peaks, that didn't eventuate but thats another story...

I was a nervous as anything in anticipation of riding Ourimbah and considering I had done three laps of the Dam in the last six months and that was only last week and that was alos my total off road riding for the last six months.

First up - thanks to Unclebullbar for the suggestion and looking after the two randoms (one of whom happens to be a colleague of mine) on the second lap.

However, not sure I thank him for bringing Tate along - he damn near killed me on the 3rd lap. Luckily I was happy for being dragged round as PB'd that course with a 37:34. Interesting that last week I had a similar experience trying to keep up with Steve01 & co and managed a 39:17, so gotta be happy with almost 2 minutes faster today.

How to avoid Chain Suck??

Hi recently on my ride in NZ I got chainsuck pretty bad with all the mud and grit on the track getting onto the chain. Does anyone know if there is a mechanical means of being able to avoid chain suck? Appreciate your feedback on this thanks.

I've said it before... scumming kills MTB skills... but really, wow, today really showed how much.

This morning I rode an MTB (the trusty Yeti - let's eeeeease into this) for the first time since Jan 3. That's over 2 months! 69 days to be precise.

I'll be back

Well I started in the second row behind Gaz and Pete as I haven't done any proper racing for quite a while and I thought if I could just keep there wheels for the first half lap that would be good. The start gun went the pack surged and immediately found myself in around 12 place with Gaz & Pete out of site this wasn't going to plan, over the next half a lap I managed to get past quite a few people and eventually caught a train of about 5 riders with Pete on the tail end but no Gaz.Sat on the back of the train and recovered for a little while then on the climbs Pete made an effort and overtook t

Ok now back to some regular riding to climb up the rankings and maybe move up a grade later in the year.
