Ride Database Entry:
Lidsdale State Forest Meeting Point:
From Lithgow head on the Western Highway toward Bathurst. After 10-11Km you will head uphill and see thick pine forest to the right. It's dual carriageway here, and there's a right turn across the other lane into Forest Ridge Drive (signposted and a sealed road). About 50m on the left there's a turning where you can park in the shade. There's also an old concrete section of the highway just past there with masses of parking.

anyone doing solo or are you all in teams?
but if 2 others wants to form a fastish team of 3 i am in.
Pairs is crap, solo or 3's are good
Don
i said last year that i'd try and do the whole series solo this year.
Team of three Carlgroover,Whisperer & Me
Check Steve01, sounds good.
Well I have joined forces with Alex and a mate of his for this. Vanina is going solo, hopefully she gets food sorted this time...
I'm pretty sure there is another team out there as well.
I'll be the guy running around the admin area wishing he was riding
Maybe it's just me but I can't find a place to enter the 2009 event. The Bright Orange Events website still says it's coming soon (actually, the week beginning Jan 19), and everywhere else I've looked refers to the 2008 event. Can someone help me out?
apparantly its still on but having website issues, should be up in the next day or 2, or so i have read anyway
Anyone looking for a team mate?
Steve01 and myself are missing Whisperer most likely. So check with him to confirm.
John.
Not only a terrifying team but big shoes to fill as well... I'll ask
Some details have popped up on the bright orange website.
But nothing you didnt already know about.
Most interestingly is the start at 8.30am, cool, more time to get there in the morning
Don
Yeah website was "updated" in that it pointed to the 08 info. This has now mostly been fixed other than Sundays date reading as the 9th instead of the 8th
I can't do this 8hr the week before the 24 - too much happening at home.
Looks like you've got a good substitute for the dancers - Dylan is keen!
(but I'll be back real soon)
Thanks Steve
I'll put my name down as a dep for the dancers then, if they will have me.
One of the oldies cornering you with tales from yesteryear i.e. "Back in my day, we used race with fixies..."
Or they might try to convince you to be their 'gopher'... you know, to ease their aching bones and all that
Game on...
LOL, I'll be in good company..
Actually, I need to find out the age groups to make sure I am "actually" old enough.
You not over 50?
...what are the age groups? Is it just open?
There are normally
juniors, in teams of 4 or 6(all team mates under 15 or something)
Masters, in Pairs or Threes (where the combined age of the team is over something to give an average age of 40?)
and then open
Anyone interested in forming a team of 2 or 3 for the full series.
Prefer to do it as Masters 40+ team, but happy to consider all options including race by race.
Ok Did two possible laps tonight
This one http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/7561166
Which I think works out a little long
and this
http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/7561167
Which was a little hurty on the long ST climb so we are going to run with the second one substituting the easier northern fire road climb in for the hurty ST climb up the DH trail
Oh and pressure was dropping so the end isn't higher than the start and there isn't quiet as much up as it is claiming
Will have a lap or 2 on Saturday arvo.
Online entries are open.
Woo Hoo!
I am entered, had some team offers but going SOLO
Not sure if it is a good idea or not, have a wedding the night before, not much sleep then drive to lithgow in the morning, hmm, going to be tough day i think. Good traing for BMC and Dirtworks 100 though
Will keep an eye out for the nobmob gang
Don
Solo. i look forward to meeting some of the nobmob gang. will be camping there the day before and ride a couple laps sat arvo.
I'm not sure how ill go with 8 hours but ill try to make 100 kms in as good a time as possible and take it from there.good training for the MTB101 on 22nd march.
We should set up together on Sunday, I'll take my 20'x24' tarp so hopefully we can find a large area without too many trees, is anyone bringing a gazebo. I think shade will be nice this weekend.
Pivot mach 5 and anyone else out there on Saturday, maybe you could find a good spot and spread your gear all over to reserve it. I'll be there early Sunday to set up hopefully before the crowds. If that sounds OK Pivot could I get your mob ph no. and I'll ring you when I get there, mines on my profile.
Cheers.
ive heard n.s.w is gonna be the hottest place on earth on sunday! great, lets ride our bikes in a race for eight hours! im really scared!
central tablelands is forecast for 35 so far. nothing to worry about.its not like its going to be 36 or something!
Don't be scared Gazza - think of the riding we did at Ourimbah... only hotter and for longer!
It's gonna be fun, and great training. Ye-haaaaar!
you've had all these hot days to do heat training and get ready for this, and you've been sitting in an air conditioned room instead.
building a deck in direct sunlight for the last two weeks then going training after that. bring it on!!!!
And maybe take an extra bottle of water, she'll be right mate
they must have a pool and mum must be good looking
Good luck guys and gals, keep up your fluids
Let there be light
two weeks. i'd show you pictures but ive heard you get terrible 'deck envy'!
Pivot Mach 5 is going to save us a spot as he's heading out there today, I'm heading early in the morning with Gav & V we'll setup the tarp, So call one of us to find the spot. Extra tarps/gazebos would be good.
See you out there and drink now. No not beer Gazza.
John.
Just out of interest when does it become too hot to race? Has anyone been to a race that was canceled due to excessive heat? I'm hearing rumors of 47 degrees tomorrow and lots of people are advising against racing. Perhaps it's my fair welsh skin, but should we be concerned?
perhaps 47 was exagerated. A more accurate forecast here says 36 degrees in Lithgow.
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN10061.shtml#CT
Each rider should closely monitor his/her fluid and nutritional intake and if he/she is starting to feel the heat so to speak, then they should ease up or take a bigger break.
I hope the event isn't cancelled or postponed due to the heat...
47 is for broken hill. Lots of media beat up with the worlds hottest state and all that.
Up here the are predicting 36
We've been keeping an eye on it. When judging when to cancel you have to take in humidity and dew point as well as temp and the wet bulb messurement is needed.
Today was 36*C here however the wet bulb comfort thingie was about 25 in the shade at Bathurst and 23 at Mt Boyce (The two closest reading stations) 28 Wb is where things begin to get extreme and extra measures need to be taken. (Note in high humidity situations it is possible to have a wet bulb of 28 in temps under 26*C.)
Stu has had discussions with MTBA and they are of the opinion that for teams it's not an issue as the recommendation is over 28WB exersize to be limited to under 1hr stints. This is doable in a team. Solos may need extra measures if the WB goes over 28.
Various things have been discussed and BOE will keep there eye on it.
Bring plenty of water and ice, remember that you also need to keep up you salt levels so a sport drink or pack of chips every now and then can help and if you are feeling bad stop and cool down, we ain't racing for sheep stations
Well I would like to say thanks again the nobmob team for their supa help during the 8h
special thank to Gazza and Darren for their amazing help out on the track
and a supa big Thanks to John to be there for me and Gav and also for his amazing advise!!
Nobmob did reall really good
2nd place for the Master three (Carlgroover, Steve01, Ladytoast)
1st place for mixed pair (ar-junkie, Beth)
2nd place for open men three (Alex, Supagav,Scott)
1st place solo women (v)
so we have had a great day (the heat was not that bad really...I just drunk 7 liters during the race plus more after the race!!!)
Wow good to see so many of you on the podium. Congratulations!
I didn't realise we were in the running for third after The Lap Dances, otherwise I would not have let Poppo just waltz on through in the last bit of ST and beat us by 50 seconds....
Congats to all that went out there and did so well!
Pleased to see Dylan supported the Dancers so well too - 'onya guys!
Looks like everyone is in good shape for the 24 next weekend - see you all there,
W
Well done to all that took part yesterday. Nobmob did really well, could this have been the best result so far? Massive congratulations to V, another win and Beth for bringing home first in her first race.
What a great day, and fine atmosphere out on the track, and brilliant camp (thanks John for the mega tarp and Steve for his miracle chair!).
Sadly I didn't really feel like I clicked with the track all day, struggling with grip in the loose stuff and simply not feeling I could do the (awesome) single justice. My crashes slowed me down and I was suffering with the heat more than a little. Still we held first all day till my last lap, there was nothing I could have done to catch Mark Codner when he shot past, respect..
Big ups to Alex for chucking up twice on a lap, nice work!
Fantastic results to the MoB congrats to everyone, we all had fun on a nice track and it was good to meet some new faces racing with us (Beth & Darren) also thanks Darren for saving the spot it worked well.
Bring on the next one
Great to meet the MOB. I had a great day and am dead keen for the march 8 round 2.
I learned a lot from this race and my food prep will be much improved for next time.
And i'll try not to sit on my arse for so long next time too!
This comment has been moved here.
everybody!!!!!!
Sounds like you had a great time, rode hard and it paid off!
Very happy for you
Happy recovery!! (well... at least a couple of days before this weekend...)
