Northern Beaches Trail Advocacy

Does anyone know a printing company who would be willing to help out with a trail advocacy campaign?
Hi everyone,
Hornsby Shire Mountain Bike Alliance (HSMBA) is a group of riders campaigning to get a singletrack trail built in Hornsby shire. Go to http://hsmba.info/ for more details.
I'm hoping there's a bike friendly printing company out there that might be able to help design and print a set of leaflets we want to put out there.
If you know someone that might be able to help, please let me know.
Cheers! Morgan

Hey all - please vote on the "What age are you?" poll ASAP
Hi all,
It would be useful to know what age groups NobMob members and guests are in because we can use this information on current and future advocacy presentations. If you can't see the poll on the home page, use this link - http://nobmob.com/node/7027
However it's only going to mean anything with a large number of participants.
The only information collected is your vote.
Cheers!

Manly Daily today- strength in numbers
Well, it seems strength in numbers does work- with local council anyway and hopefully NPWS to follow.
On page 5 of today's Manly Daily, it says Manly council will stump up $10K to re-build the dirt bike track in Seaforth they demolished previously due to injury (litigation) concerns.
'While illegal, the track had been in existence for up to 30 years'
This is what Chris Southwood talked about in his ed coloumn of the recent AMB (also a pic of him jumping at said trail in MD) where he and others sat through a boring council meeting to have their say on the closure.

NSW lags again
News from SA:
THE State Government is spending an extra $2.7 million on new and upgraded "environmentally friendly" cycling and walking trails.
...
The move is being driven by a "substantial increase" in demand for places to cycle, particularly mountain bikes, in parks and reserves.
... most trails only allow walking.
Mr Weatherill said under the new trails strategy, they would be opened up to cyclists.
Here's a new slogan for our State Government: NSW - being left behind again!

National Parks and Wildlife Service
Can some people please explain to me the structure of the NPWS and who to talk to in a particular region about access? Its the Hornsby area that we are looking at. There is a joint managed recreation park (Berowra Valley) and we need to lobby for permission to run a track through this joint managed section. Is it a local thing? A NSW thing? Who are the decision makers in regards to an issue like this? Would council be better off doing the negotiation or can individuals do it?

NSW Bike Plan - Submissions Closing Oct 31
Sorry folks - this only just came to my attention. If you can spare a moment to comment please do. Note that submissions close tomorrow (31 Oct). Details here:
http://www.pcal.nsw.gov.au/new_nsw_bikeplan_-_wh...
To comment email [email protected] (including your full name and street address) - comments should be submitted no later than Friday 31 October 2008.
This plan does appear to be more focused around on road transport, but even so I'd imagine many here would have something to say on that.

Hornsby XC track update
Email just received from Hornsby Council:
Thank you for your submission regarding mountain bike trails in the Draft Unstructured Recreation Strategy. Based on the level of support that has been shown by the community there is a strong demand for off road mountain bike trails. A report regarding the submissions received during the public exhibition period will be considered by Council at the December Ordinary Meeting on the 10th December 2008.

Bantry Bay Aboriginal Carvings
I was up at the carvings at Bantry bay today, and was disappointed to find that the whole area has degraded in the six months since I was last there.
There are MotoX tracks, Truck tyre marks, and hundreds of MTB tyre marks all over the rock face, and carvings. People have continued the practice of tracing out the carvings with a rock too.
I also noticed at least 4 riders on the illegal single track behind the rock area in a 45 minute period.

WA riders need 5min of your time

Trail design and construction 101 - Hornsby
I have a meeting coming up with the guy at Hornsby Council appointed to drive the MTB options in the area. The purpose is to discuss trail planning and building ideas. I am not special (well, special in other areas) and have no idea where to start. Hornsby Council seem to be very proactive in investigating this and are in a consultative mode. I wish to contribute as best I can and at the moment lack experience and knowledge. Can some people give me some practical advice on how a council's intentions translate to actual designing and building a XC track?
