Manly Dam update for 12 May

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

It's as good as it's going to get for now. There are a few puddles but limited to the sandy sections. The bog-holes have pretty much dried up and won't chew up any more. There's a bit of water on the rock decents on the parkway single track but not too bad. You bike won't come back spotless but you won't destroy it all.

XTR Front Derailleur Issues

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

hi all,
having some issues with my front derailleur (XTR e-type). just can't get this thing to behave properly. I have currently adjusted it so it works well enough for the high gears (large CR front, smallest cog rear) and its also fine on the small chain ring.
however on the middle chainring the chain starts rubbing the inside of the FDR as soon as i shift on to the third largest cog on the back
releasing some tension on the shifter (SRAM X0) helps but that in turn means the chain will rub against the outside of the FDR when back in the 3 fastest gears (large CR front)....

Worrying sounds

I was recently riding at Manly Dam and heard a worrying creaking/clisking noise coming from what seems to be the suspension. (maybe it's the headset?) I've heard the sound before and never payed too much attention to it. Its gotten worse (every bump i hear the noise) and i am a little at loss at what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Laughing out loud

Mtb Saddles?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

XC and marathon racing saddles - I am looking to replace the Scott branded saddle on my spark 40. I would like to save some weight and also something which is narrower.

The thing with a saddle is how do you know unless you put it on your bike and ride for a few hours?

I am a lightweight and find the scott saddle gets in the way a bit when I move forward and back. On my road bike my saddle narrow with almost no padding and I find this is comfortable.

Innovative new bike build - The Hybrid Flip-Flop Fixie

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've been thinking about what to do with an 8 year old mtb frame I have for a while. Last week I was browsing online and found this fixie solution from Velo Solo that enables you to fix the cog onto the disc brake mount. This means that on the freehub side, you can run another cog, making a hybrid flip-flop fixie & free wheel bike (flip-flop because you can flip the wheel over to change Smiling). See picture it makes way more sense... so that's the project. A hybrid front suspension freehub street bike or a super fast fixie for getting to and from work nice and quick.
