Kiwarrak State Forest XC Loop

When:
Sunday, 15 May, 2011 - 09:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Kiwarrak State Forest
Meeting Point:

Next to the tip entrance (grassed area) on The Bucketts Way (between Tinonee and Purfleet).

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

I'm heading up to visit family this weekend again and am looking to do a couple of laps (at least) on the newly marked XC loop at Kiwarrak.

This is a really fun loop that's almost entirely singletrack or sniggle, and not particularly technical. The elevation change is mild with a few gentle climbs rewarded by flowy downhills. It is well marked with large fluoro painted arrows indicating the circuit at most trail junctions.

For the more adventurous, there are some more technical options off the main XC loop.

Surprisingly wet. Hasnt really started drying yet. Good enough to ride but lots of puddles and mud. Not doing your bike any favours and some hard work to ride thru.

Rusty Shimano XT Pedals

Hi All
Had XT pedals on my bike for the last 6 months, all the cleat plates, tension springs and axles have major rust on them. It's an expensive bike, I think I do a pretty good job looking after it, no other rust on the bike, my other cheapo bike has M520's had it for 2 years, usally ride it when thing are wet, don't look after it that well, M520 not a speck of rust on them, a third of the price of the XT's, in this case I don't think you get what you pay for. Anyone else having this problem? maintenance tips?

Cheers

Red Hill update for 08 May

Area:
Red Hill
Status:
Red/Closed

This is a little late, but I went up to red hill on friday arvo for a quick exploratory ride, and was amazed at how wet it still was.
Most of the trails running down from the top were more like a watercourse with a steady flow of water trickling down, and a lot of fill between rocks has been washed away. A lot of the lines & sections that were barely rideable before are now even more difficult, and the ruts have become deeper.
Its bizarre, but you'll be in rim deep claggy clay one minute and a few metres further on you'll hit bone dry sand. It makes for a great training ride with all that extra weight clinging to your tyres. I wouldn't bother unless you want to spend a few hours afterwards cleaining your bike...

Stem Length and Tilt

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was hoping someone may have some knowledge about stem length and tilt and how that affects ride comfort? I've stuffed my back (L5/S1 disc protrusion, herniation and annular tear!) over my soccer years and it's now started to become a problem whilst riding. I'm trying to set-up my bike properly so that I can continue riding and avoid further damage to my spine. Otherwise the wife is going to get really p@#$%d at me for spending days at a time lying on the floor in pain!
