Follow Kowen Rd. up for approx 5 kms from the large metal gates on Kowen Rd – the gates will be open & manned from 7:45 AM onwards. Kowen Rd. is mainly gravel & has been repaired & is suitable for ordinary cars – but remember that there is a 40 KPH limit, so drive with care. When you are leaving after the race, remember to follow the exit direction sign down Quarry Rd - one way traffic downhill ; incoming traffic is one way up the bitumen from the gate . Dont sneak down the bitumen against possible traffic , as the entry gate will be closed by then.

The course is 7.2 kms in length & will marked & open for a practice lap from 8 AM ; rego from 8:30 AM , trophy presentation for the ‘08/’09 XC Series placegetters will be held around 9:15 AM ; racing will kick off as soon as we get through the presentation.

If you have always wanted to race With CORC ,now is the time ! Round three of the Corc racing season and it is lots of fun , race hard but finish with a smile on your face . I usually find a nice cafe afterwards to contemplate the drive home ,and laugh at my abysmal performance in the race ..... ok not really but its heaps of fun all the same Give it a go .... you know you want to !! and the cold JUNE Canberra weather will toughen you up !!!! You may even have to dodge the odd roo during the race as well

Last minute ride.. as it hasn't rained in a couple of days I'm up for checking out my usual "join the trails" ride.

It will go something like this: Start at the top of Heath Track, down to the bottom and up Cascades, turn around and back down. Up Quarry climb to ridge top, over to St. Ives single track, Sandy track over the creek and up the hill to Perimeter, Duck hole, down West Head road, Salvation loop then onto Towlers Bay, down to the bottom and back, Centre track back to Terry Hills, and back by along Forest Way to the start.

Bikes in Car Advertising

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Have you ever noticed how many car manufacturers use bikes in their ads? I find this a little ironic but as most of us refer to the car as a 'bike carrier' it's hardly surprising.

FWIW as I had to take a break from riding lately (medical - meh) haven't been driving much either. In fact filled the car last night for the first time in over 2 months!

Anyhow, that aside, here's a little game for anyone bored - how many car brochures or images on car manufacturer websites can you find with bikes? Post the links up here.

I'll start with:

Red "Muddy" Hill

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Went up Red Hill today and thought I'd post to let people know how muddy it was.. well I have to say that it has to be the wettest I have ever seen it.

Not very drivetrain friendly and I had to cut short my usual ride to a slow 10K or so.

With Damiens ride full, thought I'd gather interest for a 2 lap ride to catch up with the others by the end.

Medium pace, no stopping.

Majura Parkway Redevelopment

Majura Parkway Redevelopment

It seems that someone down in Canberra has come up with a plan to redevelop Majura Parkway and turn from standard 2 lane road into 4 lane (+ shoulders) dual carriageway. Red line on the image here shows where they plan to put the road and the thinner orange line shows where it is now.

Note that the proposed road goes straight through the vineyard and some of the most established and iconic tracks in Majura Pines such as Intestinal Track, Pooklestein, Damn Track, BMX Berms.

While Majura is a working forest and we know one day it will be cleared (in stages, sustainably one would hope) building this road in the proposed location makes no sense. Sure, there are sharp corners to remove further South, but why can't they leave the existing route around the forest and vineyard? It's not like it has any sharp turns or hills there and can easily and safely be driven at the speed limit?

Can't find the submission address right now but will post it up when I do.

You can post your comments to [email protected]. I assume just about anyone here would think cutting Majura Pines up like this is a rather bad idea?!
