Which tracks to start with ?

G'day,

I'd like to ride on a couple of Northern Beaches/Sydney tracks over the easter long weekend with my new Giant X1 but when I go to the rides section there are so many I don't know where to start...

I've already done the Manly Dam last Saturday which was a bit too technical and dangerous for a first time (fell off a few times because of uncleated shoes lol). I'd like to ride on some easy fire trails/single tracks not too technical so I can get used to the bike and the new stem I've just replaced and also learn to uncleat the shoes more quickly.

Cheers,

Dreamin' of En-Zud in Sept...

So I have a faint chance of an opportunity to spend a week or two ridin' in NZ, north or south island, at the start of Sept, my basic thoughts are Rotovegas and Taupo to start with, Queenstown being covered in Snow then.

Please feel free to fill my head with romantic dreams of other potential epic/super fun rides under the long white cloud ;-}

Ta,
Matt.

Nepal - soft impact of MTB versus local motor vehicles/buses/trucks

As we are resting in a local tea stall in one of the higher altitude villages, this overloaded bus envelops us in a cloud of dust and diesel fumes...clearly the MTB's have a softer impact than the 20 ton trucks and buses on the local environment. Go eco tourism!

Nepal: What? Buses? Up here?

Shock: This overloaded truck/bus causes significant damage to the fragile higher altitude roads compared to bikes or walkers....

Looking for the best XC singletrack within 1-2 hours drive

We have a car for the long weekend and would like to check out the best singletrack outside of the immediate area. Unfortunately we would be able to stay overnight anywhere. Any suggestions for a great day ride, preferably at least 2+ hours long?

12:20 27:52 38:57 - Cruising the 4 gates

Date:
19 Mar 08
Challenge:
Cascades - Four Gates

Laps 1-4 here... note the second half of this training ride was the same again, just doing Quarry on the way back - sorry for the confusion.

Reckon even I can get this under the hour, might have gone harder if the plan wasn't to meet the rest of the guys and do it all again. No, honest! Eye-wink

Red Hill - Friday 21st March

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I haven't actually done Red Hill yet, so am keen to get up there and check it out. Using Robs great page as reference (http://nobmob.com/rides/redhill) up the hard way from Wakehurst Parkway, to the top and explore some rocky goodness and spend enough time to rack up 30-40km's, perhaps more. Aim to waste most of the day if we can.

Start Time
Probably going to ride up sometime early in the morning (around 9am)

Cascades
Meeting Point:

Is actually the Ralston Av gate.

Due to weather I am going to stay off the Dam and head to Cascades for some hill training. Showers will probably persist through the day but I am going anyway.

Start point will be end of Ralston Ave (crn Elm).

Will certainly do a gate to gate run.

2 laps of the gate to gate basically which will extend ride out to about 2.5 hours if I am as fit as I think I am.

Changed time to AM as a space was cleared on the calendar.

Manly Dam fast 2 lap ride before church.
I know its good Friday and all but planning to get a ride in before family and other commitments.
