Garmin Edge GPS suggestions??

Hi everyone!
I'm on the market for a new GPS and I think the best option (with a budget less than $350) is the Garmin Edge 500 or 705. Any comments, advise, stories (good or bads), etc..

thanks

Appin update for 08 Nov

Area:
Appin
Status:
Green/Open

Track is in good shape, dry all the way around and not torn up anywhere. On the section where you come out onto the firetrail underneath the power lines they've graded the track and laid fresh gravel down. There is a large electricity pole down across the track there, it is on a straight section of track with good visibility but something to remember until they clear it. L

Hi, I am keen to do a 3-4h training ride early Sunday morning. It has been a long time that I have organised a ride and I have never been up in the Blue Mountains. So it'll be a bit of an Adventure ride Smiling. I got GPS so we will always know where exactly we are lost!

If you want to join, I am more than happy to take any suggestions on what exactly the ride should be. I am on a hardtail and semi-fit.

Cheers, Volker

Mont 24

Just wondering if anyone has a spot in a team leaning more to the fun side than the competitive side. If there is enough interest maybe creating a team. A team of 4 would be Ok but 6 would be great.

Cheers
Evan

Ticks

Was wondering if anyone else has managed to collect any ticks on rides around Oxford Falls and Terry Hills - I was out yesterday and later that evening I noticed something partially embedded in my leg - was a tick - about the size of a match head - are these common? - it's the second time I've had one on a ride. Can you just pull them out of the hole they are burrowing?

Red Hill update for 07 Nov

Area:
Red Hill
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Rode on Sunday, first time in about 2 years.

Starting from LPD.

What a F***ing mess! The main trail from LPD, once you pass the dirt jump area is practically unrideable unless you like trials or don't get the whole "flow thing"

The rocky tracks (I think drop zone and 4wd folly) all seem to be ok and were certainly rideable.

The techy, rocky sections leading back up to the top plateau was as to be expected (rutted, rocky and challenging) with the sandy sections looking more like something from a soggy sea of tranquility. Again, riding quality looking pretty naff unless you also like to run gravel on your chain instead of lube.

I know the next time I ride here, I'll either start at academy of sport or the entrance near to Cromer golf course.

Status is based on the overall riding state. Some of the tracks were bone dry, and others were just silly.

I don't know how much of this is attributable to moto riders and how much is just unfortunate water erosion. I started riding here almost 10 years ago and I don't think I've ever seen it look so battered.

Wheel Size

So recently I have been riding my mates dual 29er around to get a feel for it to see if its for me and I have noticed a few differences to my hardtail 26er. I find that up hills it a lot slower and takes a lot more energy to get up a hill on the 29er than my 26er. Is this due to suspension or wheelsize or am I just imagining things?
