Bairne Track update for 07 Nov
Bairne and Soldiers Point very dry. Very sandy too! Bairne's tiny rock gardens which were fun for newbies to practice on have been obliterated by the recent grading that taken place. It's now very easy for newbies.

Gone :(
Ironically, since this delightful vid was posted and I shared the link with you all six weeks ago...
... the area has just gone through a hazard reduction burn.
I know why it's done, the Ash Wednesday fires made that very clear. But sometimes I wonder whether we manage it as well as we could, since it looks like this may have burned far hotter than was intended. Hopefully it will regenerate quickly with no irreparable damage.

Commuting tips
Hi All
Having recently started a new job the CBD I did my first commute today and thought I'd ask a few of the regulars a couple of quickies:
- what's the best way of getting from Nth Sydney onto the bridge? Is it down Walker St, left onto the Southern footpath of Pac Hwy, duck through the tunnel by the Classic Throttle Shop and around the back to the ramp onto the bridge? It's a bit messy getting on the footpath but I can't immediately think of a better way

Galston Gorge, a blast up and back!
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
End of Stewart Ave, Hornsby
Local bash on some firetrails....plenty of climbing and fast downhills make it fun!
18km with 500m of climbing.

Fancy XTR gear... Discuss.
Well - I just purchased a second hand 2009 Anthem Ltd X. I have to sell my 2009 X2 Anthem now.
The reason for this post is in relation to all this XTR kit on my new bike. As much as some of it is lovely (eg, rims, gear shifts!), other parts (eg. brakes) seem no different at all. Besides the actual huge cost of XTR, I'm just wondering if any of the NoBMoB group have upgraded to XTR only to wish they hadn't? I certainly couldn't have afforded this bike brand new.
BTW - the bike is great.

Hot day at Awaba.
Did three laps of the red loop today. All times started at the car which was only 30 or so metres from the trailhead and finished back at the trailhead.
1st warm up lap - going up Straw was 42:20.
2nd lap - going straight up Camel Back was 40:05-40:10 (didn't check before I got back to the car).
3rd lap - again straight up Camel Back was 41:35.
These are unofficial as I don't have a GPS, timed by resetting the trip comp on my cheapo Atech (it seems accurate though).
