Round and round we go where we stop only 7 hours knows

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I entered my first lap race after an invite from @sikllama to do the 7 hour singleton round of the shimano gp. At the start of my day at 4:15am I was questioning my decision to do the race as that seemed an rather ungodly hour to get up on a Saturday morning. But I got myself into the car and picked up @hawkeye on the way. We arrived at around 7:30 and found the perfect spot to set up right amongst the big guys of the race, which is where we belonged Eye-wink.

First Lap Based Event - not racing for sheep stations!!

So, with a truly last minute leave pass granted at 3pm on Friday (thanks you Mrs. Pyrate!!), I quickly registered on-line for the 4 Hour Solo and started thinking about the logistics of getting ready for the race - what kit was clean? How many gels have I got? Hydration pack or bidons?

I was keen to give this race a go both as a solid training hit out but also to get a feel for lap based events, which I had never done before, as I have an eye on the Chocolate Foot Single-track Mind series later this year.

Perfect Conditions

The cloud cover stayed all day and the forecast 29 degrees never arrived.

Well done to everyone who raced. It was quite a pedally course and the promised dusty and loose conditions were accurately predicted.

Shut the gate on your way out

Round 2 of the Rocky Trail Shimano MTB GP was held for the first time just outside of Singleton on a club track which rewarded those who could hold corner speed on loose, dusty, and at times, off camber corners. Relatively flat which a few small pinch climbs it meant there were few opportunities to freewheel - a totally different course than that at Glenrock last month.

Cascades update for 09 Apr

Area:
Cascades
Status:
Green/Open

Beautiful! Cascades always rides well with a bit of dampness. Couple of puddles here and there but it means the sand is damp and the trail fast!

Cycle Commuting

In spirit of the recent discussions around cycle commuting and helmet laws etc I found this picture from the place where I lived in Sweden before moving. I've forgotten how hard it was to find the bike after a day out.....

Bali mtb ride - Batur Crater to Ubud

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Did this ride with Infinity (Infinitymountainbiking.com) while in Bali last week. A full day out with transport from and to my hotel in Seminyak, full suspension bike hire (+ helmet), water, electrolyte drinks, balinese snacks and a buffet lunch at a crater-rim restaurant for 1.25 million rupees (about A$125). Two customers and a guide, plus a driver. My bike was a 26" Specialised FSR. A little disappointing because I had specifically gone with these guys when they said they could supply an XL sized 29er. The 26er was XL, but was a little cramped.

Customer service

New Merida Big7 CF 5000, four rides old cracked frame. Warranty job so all good. Dropped it back to store of purchase before Xmas. 4 months later get my bike back with new frame. Yep 4 months. Am I being unreasonable in having the s!@#s with this timeframe? I wonder if Jason English would have to wait the same period of time to have his frame replaced

Manly Dam update for 06 Apr

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Pretty wet in places after Monday's rain. The Dam must have copped a lot because it was really surprising how much water is still around. Still rideable but you'll get your wheels wet.

Not so much as a puddle down on Gahnia. Possums is borderline unrideable with big deep puddles in places. Definitely wouldn't ride it for another day or two
