CP - First event - 50K. Are they all like that?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

My first event - 50K - entered as a super vet.
I started near the back (wave 6) and followed the line of riders in the rain.
Majura was mostly great fun. By the time I came through, the hill near the end was very slippery and many people had to push up through the mud. It was a bit of a congo line.
Nearly came off coming down again but unclipped and got my foot out in time.
Then the gullies! Oh that was muddy. Got off and pushed out several times, at least if my feet didn't slide out too.

Calling all 575 owners

My 575 is going on a year and a half and I'm considering rebuilding her. The master rebuild kit (bearings for all linkages) cost $$$$ from Yeti. Has anyone pulled their bearings and just cleaned and repacked them or do you always go with fresh new bearings? Or have you buy individual bearings from a bearings shop and replace as required?

Cheers
Phil

Oaks ride 19th June

Hi folks,

We're planning on doing an Oaks up and back ride on Sat 19th June. Plan, at this stage, would be set-off from the Euroka campground, up Bennetts ridge and then the main trail up to the gate at Woodford. Return but take the single track at the bottom of the hill rather back down Bennetts ridge, and finally back along the road to Euroka. This is a shade over 50 km and would plan on doing it in somewhere around 3-4 hours (nearer the 4 end, I suspect).

Anyone interested ?

Cheers
Mike

24 hr and Enduro events listing

Just wondering if there are any other 24 hr events that are scheduled this year. My brother-inlaw and a couple of friends are keen to do one.

Is there a website that lists all of them?

What about 50 and 100km enduro's?

Cheers

Need New Headset

Looking for a new headset, as my current one is buggered (especially after 53km of mud at CP)

My current headset is a FSA 'The Pig' - does not have sealed bearings - lame!

I have a 1 1/8" headset

What do you recommend? i've been looking at 2 on eBay

Punishment indeed ....

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was really really looking forward to this one ....... This unbridled enthusiasm lasted all of 3 km's before I picked up a stick in the rear derailleur and badly bent the hanger. Looking at the condition of the singletrack after 800 riders had gone through, I seriously considered turning round and heading back to the start ( as quite a few people appeared to be doing...). Common sense prevailed and I replaced the hanger with a spare form my pack but by this time, I was dead last and probably about half an hour behind the next rider..... not a good start.

As discussed, I'll be in the area on the long weekend and keen to ride here as I haven't ridden here before. Hopefully this rain eases off and gives some time for the track to dry enough. I'll have to take the advise of the locals closer to the date regarding track condition.
