St Ives showground and surrounds
Following from the North Shore Times. Need to keep an eye on Ku-ring-gai Council and any call for public submissions, as development of the area has the potential to impact on mtb access to the trails through from St Ives Chase to the Ryland Track and on the Quarry Track / Linigen Pl links on the other side of the road.

Bike Computer "Flea"
Ok, I lost the magnet from my bike computer "flea" and have had one made up for me by the fitters at work, but the question was just asked of me, "Does the magnet need to have the positive pole out or the negative pole out ?"
I guess I could wait til I got home tonight to try both before I Loctite it in place, but does anyone here know which way ?
Cheers, Toddy

Skinny tyres go on the 819s
Today I changed the tyres on the Yeti.
Brand new Monorail (2.1) on the front, brand new Larsen TT (2.0) on the back. Both LUST Kevlar bead. Let's call this it's 'XC trim'... for the upcoming trip. Probably only drop 300g weight compared to the 2.35 Minion/Highroller but these should roll a lot easier and they have the LUST side walls which feel a lot tougher.
Will hopefully have a quick test ride tomorrow to check the Monorail feels as good as others claim they do.

MTB apps for your iPhone/iTouch
discovered this on MTBR - may be of use to those with the iPhone/iTouch or similar - or maybe a reason to buy one
looks like if you upload some of the apps it could do away with the need to buy other biking gadgets eg bike computer, gps trainer, HRM etc (i have not uploaded/tested the apps yet so don't quote me)

mtb rental
Hi,
we´re going to Australia in January and would like to do some mountainbiking in the Sydney - Blue Mountains area. Are there any good mtb rentals in this area?
Cheers, Sasha and Johan

Recent Feedback From National Parks Ranger
Came past a National Parks ranger on Sunday whilst doing Perimeter trail. Stopped for a chat and asked him how things were going with us mountain bikers. He said the cross-country riders were not the problem, but the downhillers who build ramps and create all sorts of damage, etc. were a constant headache. He suggested that things were under way to open further tracks for mountain bikers, but that progress was going to depend on whether the downhillers start behaving or not. He said we should try to talk some sense into them.

Canberra Romp during the Half Ironman....
Heading to Canberra to support/watch a mate compete in the Half Series (http://www.canberrahalf.com/) and would like to hit Sparrow (Pre-Mont 24 Training, 1 of 2) and Stromlo.
Planning for Saturday morning (12th) and Monday (14th) either trail. Anyone interested?

ORBEA TT or ORBEA MTB
Someone I know owns this bike, I thought its worth sharing!
Frame – ORBEA TT carbon frame
Folk – 29er Nuke Carbon MTB
Wheels – Velocity with Hope MTB hubs and wrapped in 700x23 tyres
Brake – Hope Hyro with 6-7inch disk
Cranks – Carbon Truvativ single chain ring
Rear Derailleur – X.0
Bars – not sure (but they are about 30cms wide)
The owner gives cyclists a bad name...has no respect when cycling! Total nutter...

Cascades no lights
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
End of Wyatt Ave, Belrose - this is on the East side of Garigal National Park.
It has been a few weeks recovering from "bulged disk" and a sore heap, but on Sunday i did some firetrails and i am confident to ride again full throttle. I want to hit the down hill track at cascades, but in rality i am not fuzzy as long as it is mainly single trail. So suggestions to change the ride are wellcomed, not the time as i will be barely on time.

Alpine Madness ...
Tough day on the bike last Saturday. My first 100 km race. The sickos who designed the course were sadists. Clearly they were 'hard core' lads who didn't share the same diet and exercise plan as me. I don't think they even knew what the phrase 'soft ripe brie' means. Perhaps I should have taken more note of the race name - The Alpine Assault. (I guess the word 'Alpine' should have been a giveaway for the geographic profile of the area). You were either climbing or descending. Make that grinding up or flat out down. And that was really the order of the day.
