Need assistance regarding wheels/hubs

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am currently looking at buying a new set of wheels. Specifically a set of DTSwiss XR 1501 Spline One wheels (http://www.dtswiss.com/Wheels/MTB-Wheels/XR-1501...). My bike currently uses standard QR skewers/hubs front and rear. The dt Swiss wheels say that they include 5/100mm end caps on both front and rear wheels, but the rear hub is setup as 12x142. Will these end caps included with the rear wheel convert it from 12x142 to 135QR?

Manly Dam update for 20 Jun

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Red/Closed

The detour before the Hydro lab is still in play and it's quite wet at the creek crossing and after Manly Vale school. Very wet around the neighbourhood with *lots* of standing water in low-lying areas, so I'd estimate the trail is much the same. NSFR (not suitble for riding).

If you really must wreck your bike by riding in abrasive mud, Cascades is apparently good to ride. See here: http://nobmob.com/node/51277

Cascades update for 20 Jun

Area:
Cascades
Status:
Green/Open

Plenty of water about but still running clear and with the sandy base a quick hose had the bike clean.

With lots of the single trail in the area not holding up too well to this wet weather Cascades is a great spot for a challenging ride albeit fire trail.

Bantry Bay update for 17 Jun

Area:
Bantry Bay
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

See warning on use of unauthorized trails

Applies from Mon 15 Jun 2015, 12.02pm to Fri 31 Jul 2015, 12.02pm. Last reviewed: Tue 16 Jun 2015, 1.23pm.

Opened last year the Serrata and Gahnia mountain bike tracks were constructed to provide visitors with high quality mountain biking experiences that are appropriate, safe and environmentally sensitive. In order to undertake the construction of the purpose-built mountain bike tracks NPWS conducted a review of environmental factors that was publicly exhibited and available for comment in May 2013. Conditions of approval included a rehabilitation plan for the closure of unauthorised tracks to be implemented once the new tracks were operational.

The creation and use of unauthorised tracks has created problems of erosion, impacted on cultural sites, and caused damage to native flora (including threatened species) as well as increased safety concerns for park visitors. Rehabilitation works will include improved drainage, the erection of appropriate barriers to prevent access across Aboriginal rock art sites and allow regeneration to occur.

Rehabilitation works will commence on Monday 15 June 2015 by contractors as detailed in the Review of Environmental Factors map. This follows improvements to the Serrata and Gahnia mountain bike tracks such as additional rock armouring and cross banks for better drainage identified through the scheduled track usage and sustainability review.

The assistance of park visitors is sought to enable the successful rehabilitation of unauthorised tracks near Forestville by:

Riding only authorised trails and the purpose-built mountain bike tracks; and
Sharing the information above with friends and networks.
Compliance and regulatory patrols will also be undertaken by NSW National Parks staff. If you would like to be involved in ongoing environmental monitoring of the mountain bike tracks or require further information email [email protected]

What Kit for Winter Riding the Thredbo Valley Trail?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Considering we are in an El Nino and the snow forecast looks less than hopeful for a decent ski season, I was considering taking my bike down to the Thredbo with me in a months time. I'm booked in and cannot cancel.

I contacted Thredbo directly to ask if the Thredbo Valley Trail will be open for riding though winter and, somewhat to my surpise, it is.
