How much travel do I need?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,
Looking for advice on a FS bike for Manly Dam and surrounds. No need for brands, etc as I know it's a passionate and personal thing. What I am keen to hear is how much travel is required.

Garmin Premium HR strap errors.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I have a Garmin 500 with a premium heart rate monitor strap. It sat for about a month and half towards the end of last year without use and so far this year I have errors with my HR every ride. I am getting lots of drop outs, lengthy periods where my HR only varies by one or two BPM even though I go from cruising to puffing like the 3801 climbing out of Lithgow and it tends to be registering lower that would I would expect given my lack of riding over the last couple of months.

Which is more technical between Gahnia and Serrata

Having ridden Gahnia recently on the 2nd (after a big new years eve and day seemed my sense of balance left me)
Found Gahnia to be a excellent trail but very technical which tested my courage.
For those who have ridden both new trails in Gahnia and Serrata which in their opinion is the more technical trail?

garmin 510 live tracking or app alternatives

I'm after either upgrading my edge 500 to an edge 510 or putting an app on my phone that will allow live tracking.

This is mainly so if I do come to any strife either on the road or dirt, I can let the wife (or 000) know where I am.

What are peoples opinions of either option? Does having the phone constantly connected to the 510 kill the battery or is it no worse than having a tracking app running?

What tracking apps do people recommend or cheap places to buy a 510 from.

Cheers,
Pete

Lost Camelback at Manly Dam 2nd Jan

Hey guys and gals.
I left my camelback on one of the timber beams outside the Manly water plant on King St (Manly Dam) last Friday night 2nd Jan after a ride at approx. 6.45pm. It's dark blue and had some tools, pump and a personal item of sentimental value. I am happy to pay a reward for it's return.
Thanks.
