Terrey Hills update for 24 Nov

Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Perimeter and Long - quite a few out there today. Only go if you are desperate, some decent puddles and you'll end up grinding your brakes and cassette with the mud your bike will no doubt pick up. Some ok dry stretches, but some of the hills have had so much dirt washed away that there s basically only loose rock left, so careful. As Hawkeye mentioned on another post, start from the school as the fire station end is the worst bit. Note the Japanese school are having their fete today, so parking near the school is busy.

Yellomundee Regional Park update for 24 Nov

Status:
Green/Open

WSMTB cleared the fallen tree over the entry ramp to Max's Bridge on Friday 22 Nov (1st photo). Also formalised the deviation around the fallen tree about 50m into the Moto-X track - this will help reduce erosion that used to occur straight down the old line (2nd photo).

Given the amount of rain in recent weeks, the track is still in great condition (if you allow it a day or two to dry out). The work done by WSMTB and friends over the past year has been very beneficial.

Should be good to race at the Club Champs on 8 Dec!

Fixing up old bike to sell

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

After four months of hanging in my laundry/bike shed, it's just about time to kiss my old Giant Anthem X3 goodbye as I sell it to a friend. Among other things, it is in desperate need of having the rear (and possibly front) suspension replaced. Just wondering if any of you have replaced/fixed this type of suspension before, or know of anywhere where I may be able to get this fixed cheaply/for a less expensive price, as I'd like to find the most economic way of doing so. Got on it today and can hardly believe I ever rode this thing, it feels so small and slow!

Manly Dam update for 23 Nov

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Council says it's open... but use your brains please. We had a downpour today (Saturday) and Council won't be updating their FB page after 5pm Friday.

The local trail fairies would really prefer you rode somewhere else like Terrey Hills or Cascades that is more wet weather tolerant.

Terrey Hills
Duck Holes and Centre loop is the best option in the wet:

Perimeter and Long are also OK, but entering by the Japanese School is recommended to avoid the mud: http://nobmob.com/rides/terreyhills

Cascades

Sheldon makes me laugh.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Taken from Sheldon Browns great website! So much useful info. I believe that he passed away a few years ago - so never got to see the rise of a new wheel size.

Twenty Niner
The so-called "29 inch" tire size is not actually a new size, it is just a new marketing term for 622 mm (700C) wheels with fat tires.
This size is probably a good option for taller riders for off-road use, compared with 559 mm (26 inch decimal) wheels. Larger-diameter wheels don't sink as far into holes, so they give a better ride in rough conditions.

South Coast, Victoria trails?

Martine and myself are packing up the van and heading off on a road trip at Xmas and taking in the south coast including Tathra etc on the way before we head over to Bright, Victoria and ending up in Jindabyne for our usual Wicked Wombat 8hr race on NYE.
Once in Victoria we'll be heading over to Bright but can anyone recommend any "must do" stop overs for a ride along the way?
I'd hate to drive all that way and find out later we'd missed some beautiful Mtb trails or just anything worth stopping and having a look at?
Thanks in advance,
Gazza
